iCloud Drive - takes ages to upload/stuck on uploading 0kb

Hi,

Been having the problems for months - any file I put in my iCloud on my Mac M1 Max, it never seems to upload. Either 0kb of 100mb or gets up to 5mb/100mb, I have 1000/110 speeds. Tried both wireless and Ethernet, reset’d router. Different dns etc. but never seems to upload.

However, if I connect to my vpn. Uploads at full speed - I’ve no idea how to solve it without vpn. iPhone/iPad works fine uploading. Just the Mac. Even tried resetting the Mac and reinstalling Mac OS. Same problems.

Any one have any idea what else to try

Where you dropping files for upload? iCloud in browser? Which browser?

iCloud on finder, it works fine on the browser. But struggles on the documents folder and desktop

This is a weird one.

First off, the VPN thing makes me wonder if you are using Private Relay. Could that be conflicting somehow?

Second idea: try making a new burner iCloud account. Then, set up a new Mac user account and tie it to that iCloud account. Restart, logging only into that that new Mac user account. Now see what happens if you try to put a test file into iCloud Drive without your VPN active.

If that works fine, that would point to a glitch in your own iCloud account, or possibly some software conflict in your main Mac user account.

Not using private relay - and good idea. I might try that, trying to get the bottom of it.

Sometimes if I have a file where syncing is stuck, just making a folder will get things to start syncing again, I have no idea why.

IMO iCloud Drive has gotten a lot more reliable in the past couple years, but I still wish there was more transparency about what’s happening behind the scenes. Dropbox and Google Drive are way clearer about stuck files, for instance.

Hi all,

I think I have fixed it!!, it was the PIA app I had installed - even thought it was quit from application - for some reason it had affected the iCloud Drive and iCloud Photos from uploading - going to continue testing but so far - full speed uploads
