I'm so confused I don't know where to start. All the time it has been "It just works" with apple. Well, not this time.

I have a mac, an ipad and an iphone with my apple id. My wife has a pc and an iphone 4 with her own apple id.

The thing is that her computer i getting old and i think its going to crash and burn any time soon. I thought it would be a great opportunity with the release of iOS5 and icloud to make my mac the "master central" in our house, and just use one apple id for itunes purchase and one icloud account for photosharing, calendars etc.

But, we can't do that, can we?

I can't just plug her iphone into my mac and sync it. She will lose her purchased apps and music. And icloud will also make a mess out of our contact list, that we btw want to keep separate. Calenders and photostream would be great to share though...

I'm missing a real comprehensive walk through from apple on how icloud works and how you set it up in different situations.

Any recomendations out there on what to do? I know i'm not the only one out there with these frustrations.
