So woke up and got this notification. I go to settings and icloud and it prompts me to type in my password for icloudn which i do. Then it tells me my account was locked for security reasons and how I want to unlock it.

I clock on by email but i dont get any email?

Its my 6+ which has no service but i use it to wifi browse while my 7+ gets here.

Any idea whata going?

Have you tried appleid.apple.com using your security questions yet? As for why it happened, someone must've attempted to access your account with an incorrect password too many times. If appleid.apple.com doesn't work, call Apple Support. May be an iTunes store problem.

Just tried it and the email on file for resetting my password is an old .edu email that is no longer active. Graduated some time ago. The next option are the security questions to which i remember a few answers.

I dont recall ever using icloud though as i always turn the "save to icloud" option off.

Will this affect my id? Like when I try to set up the 7?

iCloud typically gets set up (whether intentionally or not) when you're first setting up a phone/device/etc. This is whether or not you turn any iCloud options off/on, as you are probably signed into iCloud for Find My iPhone at the very least. And yes, it will affect the setup of your new device, unless you want to make a new Apple ID. Again, I suggest contacting Apple support, as they will often be able to give more options than just security questions to reset your password.

Okay so I went to the iforgotappleid or whatever the name of the apple site for that. Gave my dob and answered my security questions after remembering. It then gave me the option to type in a new password which I did.

I closed the page and went to settings and icloud and it let me in this time using my new password. But I still keep getting the little pop out at random times telling me to type in my password but for itunes. So I went to the itunes store and went to my purchased content option and it told me to type in my password and I did and i think everything now is fine.

Just a little headache to keep getting that annoying pop out constantly.

Excellent! Glad it was simple enough. And oh heck yes it's annoying, but your case wasn't too bad. It gets real bad when you do everything right and yet still keep getting popups, and then you have to sign out of all your accounts, but it still doesn't work. I have a few horror stories. :D
