Hi everyone - After several of Apple's Senior Advisors were not able to help me with these problems, I was told that my case was being escalated to the Engineers. But last night I received an email from Apple which said to call back if I still needed help - which suggested that I am back at Square 1. So, with apologies for the length of this message, I would appreciate any help you could give me.
I have 4 devices - MacBook (Big Sur), iPad Mini and Air (both iOS 14), and iPhone 12 mini (iOS 14). I use iCloud including email, so I have my inbox activated on all the devices.
A few weeks ago, I happened to notice that the iPhone spontaneously "lost" all the emails in its iCloud inbox and then regenerated the inbox after a short lag. This happened maybe 2 times and I didn't think much of it. But around 3 weeks ago, the same thing happened to all the devices as well as iCloud.com. And the emails didn't come back. So I called Apple and a Senior Advisor restored my inbox. As a result, years of emails were restored including thousands I had deleted. I spent time deleting those emails again on the MacBook and the inbox there seemed basically OK.
However, I noticed that the other devices had major time gaps in terms of their inboxes. Initially I saw a reference to 150 emails downloading, which was odd because I have more than enough available storage in iCloud to accommodate the emails.
After a while I was still left with incomplete inboxes (and some strange sync behavior) so I called Apple again. Resetting the devices did not help. Eventually I spoke with yet another Senior Advisor who escalated my issue to the Engineers. I was told not to delete any emails in the meantime and await further instructions. Based on his troubleshooting, it did not seem that the problem was caused by my hardware, and so far as I can tell, my WiFi is OK.
But then this past Friday evening, February 26, the initial behavior - mailboxes spontaneously emptying out and regenerating after a bit of a lag - came back with a vengeance. I happened to notice it happening on the phone, iPad Mini, and once with part of the inbox on the MacBook. Since then, I have noticed it happening on the phone and iPad Mini with great frequency possibly when the devices check for emails.
One last thing: It is not possible to tell how many emails are in my inboxes on the iOs devices - or at least I haven't figure out a way to do that. But for the MacBook, I show about 30 emails fewer than at iCloud.com for both the inbox and sent mail.
This experience have been very frustrating to say the least. So any thoughts would be appreciated - even if only to tell me they you've had similar problems! Thanks in advance.
