iPhone 15 Pro iCloud messages problem

Recently been dealing with an iCloud messages issues. I had is setup to retain the messages forever, but decided that dont need to keep them anymore and instead wanted to switched to 1 year retention. The problem is, when switching to 1-year nothing happens. I tried to force the sync, the message says it is syncing, gives me updated sync date, but the old messages are still stuck.
Any idea how to solve the problem?

iCloud, for me, has always been perceptually 'slow' to progress . . . even--if I may take poetic license--graceful <smile>

I (literally) keep everything, so I can't directly speak to your situ.

My counsel would be to wait a few days before you begin to firm your conclusions.
