Hi, I haven't used iCloud photo library in the past largely because my library is very large (around 90gb), and so I would need to pay for additional iCloud storage. However, with the iCloud price decrease, 200gb is now a bit more affordable - $2.99/mo, which is less than I pay for CrashPlan ($5/mo) for -- arguably, perhaps -- more functionality.

In any case I have had a couple of concerns about iCloud photo library in the past, partially the price, which have kept me from using it. However, I am also concerned about how the new "faces" feature works when syncing an iCloud photo library between devices. It's my understanding that most -- if not all -- of the image recognition and analysis is being done locally. So if this is the case, if you tell Photos on your phone that two faces are the same person, will this data be synced to your Mac as well? Or will you have to do it all over again?

No, it won't be synced. Someone on this forum said that Apple is planning to add this functionality with future iOS update. But currently it has to be done on each device separately.

Thanks. That's super annoying. I guess I'll just have to keep waiting on this then...

Glad I found this - was very confused as to why it wasn't updating on my Mac

I get privacy and appreciate it but Apple needs to figure out how to do both privacy and services. I have 3 devices so without syncing I have to go through and adjust the People album on each device. I thought the whole point of iCloud was syncing but I guess not. The People feature in Photos is impressive and much better than previous attempts by Apple but not syncing leaves a lot to be desired. I guess I will stick with Google photos for the time being. Although I feel Photos is better at least I know that with Google Photos whatever changes I make will get synced with all of my devices.
