Hi,

I have always left Private Relay enabled, believing it to be the best thing. But I just noticed that it enables adult content to be accessible. My internet provider in the UK ( Virgin Media ) can disable adult content, it‘s a service you can enable, great if you have kids older enough to have electronic devices.

So with adult content disabled via the ISP and private relay enabled on the iPad adult content is still appearing, you can search and it appears. If you turn off Private Relay then adult content can not be reached.

Doesn’t this should like a really dump way of working? Apple is enabling adult content to be accessible?

I use NextDNS for this, where I can block porn sites at the DNS level. It works great with iCloud Private Relay.

I use 1Blocker to block adult sites and other nefarious sites. A DNS blocker like NextDNS or Adblock DNS work well but, can't block all ads. I use Adblock DNS to block ads in the Apple News app. Private Relay is not your problem.

Thank you all. I will investigate NextDNS and 1Blocker but I assume I have to install on all devices including the kids who will no doubt ask questions.

You can block various categories in NextDNS.

Why don’t you try Content Restrictions and add a passcode?

Screen Time-> Content & Privacy Restrictions-> Content Restrictions->Web Content-> Limit Adult Websites

I second the other opinions. I recommend you use NextDNS for that and cancel the adult filter service with your ISP. Those services only cause issues and don't even always work. Source: I work for an ISP myself.

NextDNS is compatible with iCloud Private Relay so that should do what you're looking for. On top I would also enable content restrictions under Screen Time.
