iCloud suddenly required reset

My watch just beeped it me saying I needed to reset my iCloud password. It took a bit of going backwards and forwards, as at one point on my Mac (where I was resetting my password) it was taking me down the path of recovering my account (which it said would possibly take a few days!!). I ended up changing my password twice, and I think it is now OK.

Has anyone else had this happen to them, or was it just me?

It can happen for legitimate reasons. I had to change my password the other day and I'm pretty sure I know why. I had just set up some app specific passwords and I also use a VPN. I think this threw Apple's security into a fit.
