iCloud verification code

Hi,

I have two Apple Ids, one for App Store and iTunes purchases and one for my calendar, contacts and other data.

When signing into the App Store on my Watch I could not receive the verification code on any of my devices and it was not possible to select "send as SMS". So I had to sign in on one of my devices with the App Store account.

I know, that you can generate verification codes in iCloud settings, but this seems to work only for the primary account, not for my App Store account.

Am I missing something or is there really no other possibility to receive the verification code for the secondary Apple Id?
