What does it mean when on my iPhone I have icloud checked to back up documents and data?

Is it at all possible to, lets say be at work, and retrieve a word document that I back up on icloud ? How do I do that?

i think it only works with apple apps, such as Pages and Numbers - which you can download from the App Store. Not with MS software.

Troneas is correct. If you want access (read only) to Word docs and such from any deivce, you may try Dropbox. iCloud is not a virtual disk. To store data on iCloud, the app(s) must support it.

If you have Documents and Data selected, that just tells your iCloud account to allow apps to store docs and data on your iCloud account.
