Icon Issues

Today I wanted to change the Macintosh HD icon on the desktop, so I found an image I liked, clicked 'get info' on the HD and did what I had to do to get the new icon to drag across.
But all thats happened is that the icon has changed to the image of the file type - PNG. My new icon isnt showing and the old one has gone. 😕

Does anyone know whats up?
