icon item info not updating automatically

what's the deal with item info not updating automatically for files?

i have this 'temp' folder on my desktop that keeps all the files i download to it, but it never updates the number of items automatically. i have to actually click or access the folder for it to update this information.

why is this?

So the system isn't slowed down by constant checking and rechecking of said info I suppose. 🙂
