iPod touch Icons are white iPod touch 2g

My goddaughter is having an issue with her touch.
In a nutshell other than the pre-loaded apps from apple all other icons are just white boxes. Otherwise functionality is normal.

For those that may have experienced this her info is as follows

Free-Space 6.1 gb
Version 4.2.1 (8C148)
Model MB531LL

I have considered resetting the home Screen Layout, however that is actually fine, although maybe that would jog it enough( highly technical term) to make things right??

I have also considered resetting the touch and seeing if that helps.

Try connecting it to your computer and restoring it in iTunes.

First try doing a hard reset and see if that fixes the problem. If that doesnt work, then connect to iTunes and do a restore.
