icons don't appear on desktop

sometimes when saving or receiving files to the desktop i find that the file does not appear there and must use spotlight to locate it and once selected there, the file appears. has anyone else had this sort of experience?

im using 10.4.6 ppc btw.

Finder doesn't always refresh automatically, I have found it happens sometimes when you use the command line to copy files...

If it gets really annoying, then drag com.apple.finder.plist to the Desktop and restart. 🙂

I think he just means restart Finder, not the whole system.

Sometimes I don't see newly downloaded files, but I just click any file on the desktop and usually the new files appear.

It mostly occurs when grabbing screenshots but also with downloaded files. clicking on the desktop does not refresh it though and the only way to find them is with spotlight.

Me? Yeah, restarting Finder should have the same effect, but I'd restart the entire computer all the same. Can't hurt. 🙂
