I don't know anything about the YouTube.app, but I assume it has the ability to open FLV files; unless YouTube has some other version of every video just special for iPhone and iPod users - that seems unlikely. So, would it be possible to force the YouTube.app to open FLV files from the "outside world"?
The point in all of this is to get other sites available - at least MySpace TV and other sites that use FLV format in their videos/music. It would only take about 20 - 30 lines of code to get the direct path to FLV files stored on the servers, I know this as I've already written code to do just that (not in xcode because I don't know how to run it). I have the hope, desire and some of the know-how to get this working, I just need to know if there's some way to force YouTube.app to open outside FLV files? I realize that vlc4iphone/ZodTTD is working on getting videos to work, but if you can tap into YouTube.app then it will work just the same, maybe better.
Let me know if you can help, or if I can help you in some way!

You assumed wrong. The iPhone does not supprt flvand the Youtube app plays h.264 versions of videos.

So YouTube converts everything to h.264 just for the iPhone and iPod? That's awful. Okay, back to the drawing board, I guess.

I just use TubeTV on my Mac to download and convert flv files to mp4..it even optimized for the IPod and imports into ITunes for you. I used to use I-Squint, but this is much better. Of course, you need a Mac for this, but if you have one, honestly, I would find this much easier than trying to do it all on the IPod, even if you had the software for it.
