    Hi guys,

I don't have an iphone yet (aussie aussie aussie! :p) but I have an idea for any of you apple iphone employees that *aren't* on this website.

One of the few software criticisms of the iphone (as far as I know) is that due to the lack of dedicated hardware keys, you have to touch a number of buttons before you can say... dial a number...

Thing is, even with a phone that has hardware keys, you still have to unlock it before you can use them... iphone's unlocking mechanism takes you to the home screen, but the gesture recognition could do so much more.

Picture this: the unlocking action of sliding your finger across brings up a list of your shortcuts (think of leopard's "stacks" and you'll get what I mean). If you let go at this point you'll go to the home screen, but if you drag your finger to any of the icons in the stack, it will take you to that thing. It could be a bookmarked webpage, or your contact list (or for that matter a fav. person's contact details, which would give you a two click dial), or a particular album on your ipod. It would be user configurable; basically the reverse of the "home" key.

    What do you think people?
    Cheers,
    Michael

honestly I think letting the end user configure the home screen would be easier..
