How much are people paying for Virgin bband fibre only?

All the pricing is here:

http://store.virginmedia.com/broadband/compare-broadband/index.html

Be aware; Virgin's setup is very much a "menu" system; the more products you take, the cheaper overall it is.

I pay £105 (GBP) a month, but for that, I get:

100MBit/second fibre-optic broadband (soon going up to 120MBit/s)
1TB TiVo HD Television box, with their "XL" TV pack (all the Sports and Movie channels)
Free second Virgin Media HD TV box in a second room
Virgin phone line - Free calls evenings and weekends and discounts at other times.

To buy all the products separately (if you could get 100MBit/s from BT, which currently you can't where I live, and SKY television) would work out at around £140 (GBP) a month.

That sounds a lot per mth!!

Virgin, if it is available in the area. But Virgin aren't the best in upload speed area so, if it's a big deal, go for BT Infinity.

We have BT Infinity 2 40mb/s

It is by far the best service we have ever had; we get between 25% to 50% of what we pay for and sometimes we even get what we pay for.

I am a plusnet person, they have never let me down since 2001, recently got fibre (so much quicker). In my opinion their customer support is the best by far, and their prices are very reasonable too, take a look

Also just checked the website you can get speed up to 86MB with their new fibre line... So pretty good :) and a lot cheaper than Virgin & BT :) :)

If she gets her phone unlocked she can get on 3 All-you-can-eat data and tether. The PAYG is £15 a month which technically excludes tethering but word is that you can still tether anyway. I've got the One plan which is All-you-eat-data with tethering inc. and use that as my ISP all day long. That's £25 per month on a 30 day rolling contract and obviously in both cases she'll get minutes and text and internet on her phone.

Tell her there's still time to cancel it! I did when I was going to go with virgin then found out about Dongles then a few months later when my phone contract ended I could move to 3 and get All-you-can-eat data. I got a refund after i cancelled it a week before they were going to install it. What phone has she got? She could even buy a 2nd hand one from CEX and get a 3 sim and it'd still probably be cheaper all inc. than having it installed. Plus if she moves there's nothing to move.

What speeds do you get with mobile?

Well I'm not sure because I've never seen anything to compare it with...I'm not expert, if you will, but you don't have to wait for webpages to load like years or go or anything like that but I'm guessing that the dl speeds aren't the best. In fact when the hullabaloo about 4g was going on a week or two ago I had trouble getting my head round why they were making a big deal about it being faster until it dawned on me they were primarily talking about dl.

Any chance of taking a screen shot and posting the results from this test.

O.K. what does it means....roughly.

Ping - how quick you communicate with the net - ideally 25ms or less for games

Download - in the UK expect double figures from most bband in MB - yours is half a MB so quite slow really.

Upload - yours is good/normal

Oh well. The main thing with speed for me is that it streams content well which it does for the most part and I don't have to wait for webpages to load. I can wait for things to dl and ul!:)

To me it would mean it is virtually unuseable.

I can't see how you can stream without huge buffering.

What does :d smiley mean?

I've never had huge buffering although sometimes it's pretty bad. Around the time of the Olympics when I was watching a lot on the bbc iplayer it was bad...in fact on reflection I think I'd have to say it was huge at times esp in the afternoon and eve. There is a bit of trouble in paradise today though. For some reason my Mac won't detect the iphone 4 wifi hotspot this evening. In fact since I've had it yesterday it's been connected to my Mac via the USB and I've been getting internet via that rather than wifi which may have been the case when I did that test last night. Don't know why my Mac can sometimes detect the wifi and other times it can't. I'm just glad I can get intertnet at all or I'd feel massively ripped-off by 3. Personaly I suspect they limit wifi hotspots for iphone users when you've been using it a lot for a wifi hotspot which I do which is a bit naughty. Hopefully i'll be able to use it again quite regularly during the next 2 yrs I'll be paying for it!

I can't remeber what happend with the smiiey. It's just meant to be a happy face 'cause I was smiling at the joke about 'sometimes get what we pay for'...If it was a joke!:O
