I’m curious to see what people think Apple will or can do for the 10th anniversary of the iPad. We already got it much lighter thinner, ridiculously powerful, great display and Face ID with small even bezels all around.
How can they top the iPad Pro 3/Technically iPad 17 (if including all iPad models.) lol

Realistic upgrades...
Bump in resolution (4K?).
Smaller bezels.
8-10-Core A14X chip.
6-8GB RAM.
Even better speakers.
7000 Series Aluminum
Stronger glass (ion x?)

Dream upgrades...
Magnesium or stronger Aluminum chassis with glass on back and conductive charging.
Possible OLED or MicroLED 120hz display.
Improved Apple Pencil latency.
A true hybrid OS announcement called something like Apple OS= iOS+Mac+new features.

I dunno, what about everyone else?

i think:

Realistic upgrades...
Bump in resolution (4K?). -> dont belive
Smaller bezels. -> whats that?
8-10-Core A14X chip. -> maybe
6-8GB RAM. -> max 6GB i think
Even better speakers. -> maybe a little
7000 Series Aluminum -> possible
Stronger glass (ion x?) -> no

Dream upgrades...
Magnesium or stronger Aluminum chassis with glass on back and conductive charging. -> hopefully not
Possible OLED or MicroLED 120hz display. -> too expensive
Improved Apple Pencil latency. -> is it bad?
A true hybrid OS announcement called something like Apple OS= iOS+Mac+new features. -> maybe 1 or 2 features of MacOS, like better file management, but i think thats all.

I dunno. When i think of the iPad X, i don’t think of the pros, i think of the regular iPad. The iPad Pros have already gotten their “X” update with the 2018 model in my opinion.

The question is, when will the regular ipad(and possibly ipad mini) get it? And by “X” update, i mean the slimmer bezels, usb-c, face ID and Apple pencil 2 support(cause i don’t see Apple making 2 diff pencils for much longer). Will it be with this next update in March? Or will Apple wait until the official 10 yr anniversary in 2020?

I have a feeling, it will be 2020. And perhaps by that time the micro LED will be ready for the ipad pros to keep the higher price for them justified(along with faster chip etc).

So maybe the regular ipad & ipad mini update this March will just be a minor spec bump, with the regular ipad also going from 9.7” to 10.5”. I was hoping they’d get the flat edge design of the pros and apple pencil 2 support, but i think thats still a year away.

I am just guessing tho.

An redesign for ipad will not have probably for the next 3-4 years
Maybe they will change to al 7000series or other small changes but no,if faceid cannot be put in smaller bezels than the current design its the best

Oh...i would also love to see LIQUIDMETAL finally be used as the chasis for the ipad. But i dunno if it’s ready for large scale mass production yet.

I don't have a clue. I think that Apple has painted itself into a bit of a corner with regard to the iPad line. They've got the upper-tier 2018 iPad Pro, the almost-mid-tier 10.5 iPad Pro, and entry level 2018 iPad. The Mini is kinda/sorta hanging around.

The top-tier hardware has far outstripped the needs of the existing software. Even with "full" Photoshop coming (I'll believe it when I see it), there isn't anything that is going to tax those devices in 2019. Producing a new generation of top-tier Pros in 2019 will be a hard sell for most... except for those hard-core professionals, and fans of the latest and greatest.

I can see the 10.5 Pro getting a price reduction in 2019. That would bring the 10.5 down into the mid-tier category and maybe even rival the 2018 iPad as being a legitimate bargain.

I can see a 2019 9.7 iPad getting a bump up to the Air 2/9.7 Pro chassis and a processor bump. Keep the price the same.

The big mystery to me is the Mini. Apple might come out with a 7.9" version of the 2018 iPad (including non-laminated display and support for Pencil 1). That would sell and they'd be able to keep the price attractive.

Depending upon how well the current iPad line sells, I can see Apple doing something dramatic with iOS 13 and new top-tier hardware to exploit that (and unique to that hardware alone)... like support for mice/trackpad and a keyboard folio that has a built-in trackpad. THAT would certainly stir up a group of potential customers (myself included).

Ios13 just needs some sort of pointing support,files 2.0 and support for multiple users accounts for the ipad and will bring more people to the ipad family
Oh yes and offer more support for the usbC

Apple doesn't release new products to celebrate anniversaries. They update products when they think they can make them better.

True. But they do mark anniversaries. Skipping the iphone 9 and announcing the iphone X on the 10th anniversary of the iphone.

I don't think that's why the named it the X. I think they went from 8 to X because it was a major update to FaceID that's going to be the basis of iPhone for a long time. And it brings back memories of the transition from Classic Mac OS to OS X.

I really don’t need much at all from a hardware perspective. The new Pro’s are pretty much perfect. I’d rather Apple focus on software fully in 2019 and then release updated hardware in 2020.

I agree. Besides the regular ipad & ipad mini update, I think Apple will focus on software in 2019. I don’t think we’ll see an ipad pro until 2020 when micro LED might be ready.

I agree with the others, I think the new pros are how all future models will look, the big changes will come in ios.

No, they actually made the X JUST for the iPhone's 10-year anniversary, if you watch the September 2017 event, Cook says all that.

Anyway to everyone else... I don't really think they will change anything design wise. I am just curious on how they can possibly do something dramatic and attention grabbing to the iPad for it's 10-year anniversary.

When Apple releases tablets with some kind of hybrid iOS/MacOS OS, it will certainly require new hardware. The current iPads will always remain the large iPhones they are. That's what the customers paid for.

The 2018 iPad Pro are almost perfect hardware wise. All we now need are enhancements to the software to enable them to show their full potential. Let’s hope iOS 13 goes some way in that direction!

I agree.

Enough with thinner, lighter, faster, bezel blah, blah, blah. As is, it’s an amazing piece of technological hardware. To the point that, at this time and age, it’s almost comical to complain about hardware shortcomings and asking for more and more just for the heck of it. That alone has become a hobby for some people. The hardware is way past what it’s OS and available software is capable of extracting from it. Spec increases at this point have only to do with sales not shortcomings.

I still hope for the 2019 model to have better structer like 7000series to avoid all those bend product
I think its far worse than iphone 6 plus based on the sales

Would a 4k display--at this size-- or decreased pencil latency --at this point-- even be
noticeable?

I say
encourage keyboard shortcuts for all productivity apps, like procreate currently has
mouse/trackpad support
redesign of the keyboard cover to be more like Surface keyboard cover

So the price for the basic model starts at 1999$/2300€ ? :)

Uhhh you just descibed the 2022 models. 6-8gb of ram? You do know that is overkill for an ipad. Apple does a great job in optimizing ios and ram. You clearly know nothing about ram usage.

The ipad looks fine right now. Maybe smaller bezzels when they shrink the Face ID module. The real change is with ios. That what will make or break future ipad adoption.
