IDVD 08 cutting sides

Wondering if anyone can help.
I've had no ends of problems since changing up from my G4 to a new macbook 2.4
Firstly I lose sound after about 5 mins into a film, but I have been told to change to perian 1.0 instead of 1.2 so I am trying that now.
Also, Everything I burn onto DVD the edges get cut. This is IDVD08 and even video_ts on toast.
The project settings are on 16:9 so I don't understand why it is doing that.

Any ideas as this is a major blow for me.

That happened to me too with 4:3 however. The only way I could resolve the problem was moving everything in closer in the DVD menu.

What do you mean move everything closer?
The meus come up as 16:9 but any content reagrdless of how it's filmed gets the sides cut. It's wierd as the content is there and if I play it on a mac using dvd player its all there and works fine so I am beginning to think its my dvd player getting the wrong info from the disc. I'll try it on a different player when i get a chance.

Something isn't right though.
