Got the files and saw the screenshot.

Just out of curiosity, did we come upon even one method I proposed that worked?
I can open the .mts file only in VLC Player, but also not in MPEG Streamclip, the same goes for the .m4v file. I can't even open the .m4v file in QT Player.
I guess the .mts has some kind of copy protection.

I now try VLC Player as transcoding tool, bit so far unsuccessful. I also tried ClipWrap, but it doesn't recognise the format of the .mts file you send me.

Does that software have any other export options?

Nope, just does the one way, no other choices.

Well, so far what worked the best was when I converted the mp4 to a mov and then did it with Burn. It did not look good when I Burned it in iDVD, it lowered the resolution.

I think you suggested another way that I never got to, because we stumbled upon the MTS > Mov way.

I wonder if i should try idvd with the Best Performance, that automatically makes it take up the whoel disc.

I also have Toast, but that didn't seem to do any better.

So frustrating, wonder how anyone makes a good looking dvd with iDVD.

Normally they have other source material.

Anyway, since you already got an .mp4 file, we could use that in MPEG Streamclip and transcode it to a .mov file using the Apple Intermediate Codec.

I also tested the .mts file in HandBrake and I could get an .m4v file, that could be opened in MPEG Streamclip, but if you already have or can get an .mp4 file (.m4v is the same format), HandBrake does not need to get involved.
But if the .mp4 file is not readable by MPEG Streamclip, which shouldn't be, as Burn could read it, we might have to use HandBrake.

I tried to open the MTS with, but it said I needed:

Yes, mts to mp4 and then to streamclip w/apple intermediate codec is how i did the last test in iDVD and Burn.

The mp4 opens in Streamclip with no problem. That is how I do my little edits.

I just want a DVD to look good, lol.

I have that QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, and I couldn't open the .mts file in MPEG Streamclip.
Can you make a screenshot of your QT components folders (Macintosh HD / Library / QuickTime and Macintosh HD / System / Components), you can use CMD+SHIFT+4 to make a selection of what to shoot?

Remind me again, did the .mp4 to .mov look bad on an iDVD produced video DVD?

It was better then it looked before, but it was not nearly as good as with BURN. Remember, I showed you the text files from Media Inspector from before and you said something was way lower on iDVD.

Files are attached.

You already have the QT MPEG-2 component, as you seem to have FCP X installed or an older version of FCP. Which one?

And yes, I remember the quality issue now. Seems the culprit is iDVD.
Maybe use the Apple Support Discussions Forums to ask for iDVD help, as I am not capable of doing that, as it seems.

Btw, the quality issue might be due to the source (.mts) being High Definition (HD) and a video DVD is only Standard Definition (SD - a quarter of HD), which iDVD might not like. You could try to lower the resolution in MPEG Streamclip to SD resolution and see if that helps. You can use the .mp4 file for that and have the same export settings, except the Frame Size should be set to "720 x 480 (DV NTSC)" and Interlaced Scaling should be checked.
Under Field Dominance select Lower Field.

When I exported it, I did export as 720x480... Should I try the standard size???

I did have an older version installed, but not any longer.

EDIT 2:

I tried again using the settings I posted and burned it with Toast. Looks pretty good, the most annoying thing is the box hat says TVPG and writing in other areas is what is bouncy. Trying again with iDVD now! LOL

EDIT:

Here are the export settings I used that did not look good on iDVD, but did look good on Burn.

Is this correct?

I am a bit confused, as your screenshot says "640 x 480" as unscaled, which would be the original size, but the .mts files you send me we in HD.

Do you have FCP X or an older version of FCS installed?

No FCS installed at the moment.

I am confused too, lol. As you can see, the export to quicktime in Streamline, I set it to 720x480.

What would make text on the screen jumpy?

I assume you have the .mp4 file open in MPEG Streamclip and those are the export settings? If so, when the .mp4 file is open, press CMD+I to open the Stream Info window and make a screenshot again.

Interlaced scaling probably. You could try to select "Deinterlace Video", but MPEG Streamclip does not really have that good deinterlacing code.

That box was the settings of how I exported the mp4 to a .mov in streamclip. I am posting the settings now for the settings as you wish for the .mp4 and .mov.

OK, will try!

Should I not be exporting as 720x480 since its SD?

Also, here is a post I did on the apple board, not sure any of it makes sense to me.
