After I had already updated to 10.1.4, Software Update suggested the update to IE 5.1.4. It installed successfully and put an IEUpdater Receipt in the Receipts folder, but when I launched IE it didn't show version 5.1.4 under "about Internet Explorer". I have a hunch that it would have worked under 10.1.3, but maybe the IE update isn't handling the new system update properly. I know of at least one other person that is also having this problem after having installed 10.1.4. Everyone else I've talked to installed the IE update before 10.1.4. I've tried various ways to get around this, but nothing has worked. Even considered re-installing 10.1.3, but the installer won't allow me to perform the install over 10.1.4. Please help. Thanks

I'm sorry I can't be of much help to you, but for future reference (for all) it's usually best to take the updates in the order that they appear in the System Update panel... not that that was your problem, at least it shouldn't be.

Re-installing System 10.1.3

Do you think a future system update will also update IE, or is there a way for me to re-install 10.1.3 so that I can install IE 5.1.4 myself? I do have my System on a separate partition, but a re-format is out of the question. A program like Pacifist, for example, might work if it's capable of installing the System software, rather than one component of the System package. What file does the installer read from when determining the current system version? Maybe I could delete the file and trick the system into thinking I have 10.1.3 installed which would then allow me to re-install 10.1.3?

Have you tried just trashing IE and downloading it fresh from versiontracker.com? I can't see how an IE update before or after a system update should affect it. But then who knows what the heck those installers move around and modify...

Here's an afterthought. Have you checked your Applications folder? There's a remote possibility that you're still launching the old version of Internet Explorer if you put it in your own custom folder. I think the installer script only recognizes IE's default location when it updates, so if you're launching IE from the dock, you very well could be launching the old version.
