if 5se/mini 6 is still 326ppi would it stop you buying it?

I don't care about it as long as its "retina" Remember this is projected to be Apple's low end phone and will not have high end features. If they're going to push the envelope on pixel density, they'll do it on the flagship.

I doubt I'll notice anything above 326

Not too bothered, but a nice increase to 1280x720 could be nice as well. I have no issue with the same res as the 5S. if they call it SE, then they could bump up the resolution without comparing to the 6S, then in september bump up the resolution on the 4.7, to increase the ppi. But the screen res is already great.

Not sure about others, but I can still tell the difference between 300PPI and 500PPI. I'd like it if Apple went to a 3x retina resolution so that I don't see those jagged lines as easily as I do now.

Can you tell the difference during normal use, or can you tell the difference only when you stare at the screen in close range? For me, it's all about what I see during normal use, and the anything above 300ppi doesn't offer me tangible improvements on normal usage.

Pixel arrangement is also key. Many amoled screenshot some older android phones need higher ppi due to the pentile pixel arrangement.

The next phone needs to have at least 338 ppi. 326 ppi is shameful. More ppi is even better because you can't have too many ppi. Personally I really like ppi. Sometimes I dream about ppi because ppi is wonderful.

So just 12 more PPI would make a difference between shameful and fine?

Well I don't plan on buying anyway. Not trying to get a leaser spec'd iPhone. And yes Apple's 326ppi screens look outdated as hell. I love :apple: products but I gotta keep it real. I've played with the GS7 and S7 Edge and the screens (as "overkill" as some may claim) look absolutely beautiful. Man if only the S7 Edge ran touch wiz or was stock android, sold directly through Google...I'd totally get one.

Price point is (almost) the only thing I'm looking at right now. This phone is not likely to have a higher ppi than the 6s. I can't see that making a whole lot of sense.

$400 or less
2gb ram
A9 (don't even need an a9x tbh)

Those are my minimal demands to be interested. I realize the price point and perhaps ram is likely more than Apple will deliver here. That's ok. I don't need to buy this thing.

I can't believe people are moaning about it 'only' being 326 ppi. It's 4 inches! Hey why not stick a 1440p display on there, at least it would match all of the android phones.

I'm ok with 326 ppi. Didn't people used to say that 300 was about the limit of human detection? What happened to that?

I actually prefer 326 ppi. Faster phone plus better battery life.
The limit is 300ppi at a viewing distance of about 10". Also, some people have better eyes than others.

I hope they increase the res of the 7 but I don't really care if they leave it on the 5SE.

Comparisons.....

Just to add for your pleasures folks. Not the screen, but photos
Wow, ANDROIDauthority... What a competent site to have a fair comparison....

PPI is the new megapixel.
It is important to a certain point, but then you have diminishing return. 300 PPI is the sweet spot, and anything more might put sacrifice on battery life and performance for visual improvements that might be minute on daily usage.

To me, color accuracy is more important than PPI above 300.
Correct.
As I said elsewhere, I think Apple will start raise resolution when the technology would permit to maintain the same form factor without impacting battery life and thermal constraints.

The price will be around $500.
I think I will have 2 Gb of ram and A9 (A9X in such a small device is too much).

Too much for my needs, so probably no sale. If they give me a 5s for $250 I will gladly get that for my son.
How much is the 5S as of today ? Expect the SE to be sell at about the same price... It's Apple after all: they don't sell cheap products.

Will you find an iPhone 5S for $250 ? I don't know... Here in Italy you can quite easily find a 5S for 399€, and its price will surely drop a little bit after the SE launch. But 250€ seems to be a too low target...

The rumors are saying the iphone 5s will drop in price to $250 when the SE launches, no one knows if true but that is the current rumor.

The rumor was $250 once the SE launches. Whether that's a temporary thing I don't know. Whether it even happens I also don't know.

I'm just saying what I'd be willing to spend on a product. The 5s is nearing three years old and isn't worth what it retails for today to me, however I'd jump on a $250 price point. The 5c was discounted to around $300 around the time it was beginning to get phased out here, so it wouldn't be entirely unprecedented.
