iPhone 7/Plus If an iPhone no longer gets the new iOS version, does it still get security updates for a while?

For example, the iPhone 7 didn't get the latest iOS 16 update. However will it still get security updates for another year or so?

They released iOS 12.5.7 for the 5S this year, wow! Almost 10 years of support.

I need to get a phone for a relative that will be easy to use and long lasting. Was thinking about an Android but can't ignore 10 years of support. Pixel 6A will only get security updates until 2027, just 5 years in total.

Typically, yes. However, Apple doesn't publish an official support roadmap so it's hard to be sure of when a given phone has stopped getting updates.

Apple support a lot of the old stuff with security updates, so I wouldn’t worry too much with any older device you’re planning to use.

My iPhone 6s+ is still receiving updates for iOS 15. Presumably those are security updates because it can't run iOS 16.
