personally i don't think you could build much better than the current iBooks. but you could halve the price if you really wanted to attract 'e-buyers'.

I have a white iBook, and don't get me wrong, I love it. But, I do have a few problems with it.

1. The monitor squeaks when you open it. I sent it off to Apple, they said that nothing could be done, it just squeaks. It needs 2 hinges instead of one.
2. The Keys fall off very easily. The keyboard needs major improvement.
3. The ports need to be in the back. It makes connections a lot easier if the ports were in the back. At least for me anyway.
4. The CD tray needs to be slot loading. The tray is very flimsy, and not very durable.
5. They need integrated Bluetooth technology and another firewire port. Plus, a superdrive would be nice.

Just a few thoughts...

digital hub concept should apply to eBook

Jobs has been pushing this digital hub concept for a while now. why not apply it to the eBook/Newton2003 concept?

i would like a sub-laptop like this:

1. fast g3
2. no drives of any kind
3. 10" screen
4. some clever keyboard sol'n to match 10" screen
5. as much battery as can fit
6. networked (airport, bluetooth, ethernet port)

it would be super-portable, have a lot of battery life (more battery since no drives, combined w/ low-consumption g3). no drive is needed if installs can be done over network (clearly, another computer [desktop] would be needed).

i don't render music or video on my laptop, i use my g4 desktop for that. what i need is portability for:

1. writing (Final Draft)
2. email
3. browsing

and i want the 'puter as small as possible. i'd pay $1k for this machine.

now that is not a bad idea...just update it a little...more light in weight and a better processor and video card and there you go!

so we would have:

emac and ebook

imac and ibook

G4 and tibook

that's six models and very manageable for a small company like apple...it certainly beats when apple had 20+ models or so at the same time....as in the "apple of the month club" he he:p

I don't have PS...and i'm using a PC so I don't have any programs that I know of to stitch together images...:p

Try www.irfanview.com to get a nice, basic image viewing program (with a little editing capability built in). And did I mention it was free. You can also download it from www.tucows.com or www.download.com for free. It's what I use on my PCs.

Or MSPaint if you get desperate.

An eBook would be cool, but don't expect any GHz iBooks anytime soon. G4 or otherwise. We know IBM was working on a GHz G3, but do we know how much it costs? Or if it even would work with the iBook's current architecture? Or if it even exists on anything but paper?

Would be nice though. 1 GHz G3 iBook. Or eBook.

You really don't need a clever keyboard to match the 10" screen...if you make it a 16:9 or any widescreen aspect ratio. This is why I like the Fujitsu P-2000...its a 10.6" screen, but at a 5:3 aspect ratio, so the keyboard is normal. Now if it had a touch screen input, that'd be awesome...i hate pointing sticks with a vengence. I could use an external mouse...but I'm too lazy. (and cheap)

The other reason I like the Fujitsu is the modular bay. If you need to install programs, listen/burn CDs, or watch a DVD, plop it in. If you want to write, email, and surf the net all day on a wireless network, plop in a second batt. I'm tellin' ya, if apple made an eBook with these features and the same price point (around 1500)...i'll drool:eek::D Sell it for 1k (as an eBook should) and apple will gain a share in the market...i'll guarantee it!
