If Apple had turned the 12" PB into a 12" MBP, would you own that computer today?

Not yet. I don't quite view the Intel transition as over. When Leopard releases and we get the first complete version of OSX designed primarily for Intel I'll start looking to make the switch myself. At that point a 12" PB replacement would be most welcome.

I was one of the first to own that tiny Sony Vaio way back when I hardly ever used it but it was super small dont remember the specs....think there is a place for a 12" Sub, but with my MBP and my iphone, I am covered :)

I've been waiting for a 12" or similar size with Intel processor to trade up to from my 15" PB G4. If Apple came out with one, I would be first in line.

Could be. Although I have never owned a 12" PB, I know how valuable it was, and how I would have much prefered a 12" mbp over the 15" one I have now. I think what's more likely is the people who voted "no" simply want a bigger screen and don't have the need for a more portable machine.

I don't own a 12" Powerbook and I never have. I did have a 12" iBook for 3 years during my undergraduate degree and I loved that little machine.

In all honesty, I love the MacBook keyboard - but I just feel like I want something more from the machine.

Everytime I see a MBP or even a 12" PB, I get jealous. I couldn't afford a powerbook when they were out (I can now), so I got the iBook. It did everything I need. Now I run software called IGOR Pro daily, as well as MS word, and the odd dabble in photoshop. I think I could buy a 12"PB and be happy - but I would miss things... like the remote for keynotes, the great battery of the macbook, the speed of the MB compared to a 12" PB, the 160GB HD I installed, the 2GB RAM and the magsafe.

I am right in thinking that the MacBook does beat the PB by a fair margin, no?

I currently own a 12" PB and looking at the new MBs and MBPs they already seem as small because of the widescreen. I think a widescreen 12" MBP would look too small and that what is available because of the reduction in thickness etc. already brings it down to the portability of the old 12"er.

After waiting since the intel announcement, i caved and bought a 12" on ebay. I figure I'll give the 12" to my someone in my family or something and upgrade if they ever come out with this dream computer.

I definitally would have bought one instead of buying a used 12" powerbook, and if Apple comes out with one I will definitally be upgrading. I'm not sure what I will do when I have to upgrade if this machine does not exist yet, I may have to look into the state of OSX86 at that point.

Everything except graphics, which still isn't by much. The PB has a dedicated GeForce Go FX5200 while the MB uses an integrated solution. But the 5200 is an older card, so the 950 might provide more Shader functions, even though it's integrated.

Oh yeah, I was also going to say that I currently own a 12" VAIO and it's way to small for my needs anymore. Then again, I'm not a student, and while I still carry it around with me, a 15.4 or 17" computer wouldn't be too heavy/bulky for my needs.

Most definitely. Most most definitely.
It's the whole reason I have waited on a
notebook.

Only if it was a 13" MacBook Pro. 12" would have too small of a screen. But a MBP in the same form of the 13" MacBook (With less framing around the screen making it smaller) would be perfect.

I'd have saved up extra for it if it was around the price of the BlackBook.

i still have my 12" powerbook in storage. i voted yes. i love my mbp but i miss the portability of the smaller mac. i would like a higher resolution screen tho, 1024x768 was pushing it a bit. maybe a 12" widescreen.

If we're translating the specs with a C2D ULV Processor, a 1280 x 800-ish screen and maybe an 8400 Go or an X3100 - No.

Mainly because it's way too heavy for what it is. Halve the weight and have it pass a meter-drop test like the Sony's - and I'll consider it.

I second this. I would buy that right off of the bat.

I have a 1.33 12" PB and it is, by far, the best Mac (much less the best machine) I've ever owned. The size is ideal from a portability perspective, the weight was AMAZING for it's day, the screen is crisp and bright if a bit small by today's standards, and it was silly powerful. This thing was spec'd out almost exactly like the 15" PB but was ridiculously more portable and substantially more solid. All that, and it still runs as good as the day I brought it home and I'm a pretty heavy user! I'm finally in the market for a replacement and I'm more than a little let down at the available options. The MacBook would be great if, as so many have pointed out, the graphics were a bit better. The MBPs are just too big to be truly portable. I'd give almost anything to be able to buy a new one (or at least what I imagine the product would look like today had Apple not discontinued it.). In short, 12" PowerBook ALL THE WAY!!!

Man, I haven't posted in like two years. Feels good to be back!

i have a 12" dell 710 and i have to say that i wouldnt buy such a small laptop again. My laptops are my everyday computers, i have a dekstop that i game on every once in a while, but i havent even turned that thing on in months.
my macbook's screen looks like a movie theatre screen compared to my 12" and the size of the computer itself is not much bigger.
