1.Do you think Apple would pass on the increase to us to offset?
2. Would you still buy iPhones if prices went up by $150/$200?
3. Do you think they will just eat the difference and not pass it on to us?
4. If they did pass on the increase would that see iPhone demand fall beyond repair?

1. Partially, not fully.
2. Absolutely, but I'm keeping phones longer than I have in years past.
3. See 1.
4. No. Apple is unique in the market as they use iOS. Many like myself won't go to Android under any circumstance.

What does a professional need out of a $1200 smartphone every year?

Actually, there are quite a few professionals that use their phone every single year for specific technology it offers, it could be for developing tools, specific camera technology like smart HDR offered on the A12 processor, look at the amount of content creators that use their phone for variouscriteria. Just because you don’t hear about professionals that use smart phones that offer certain upgrades, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist either.

People serious about photography are buying a proper camera.

  1. I can definitely see Apple passing on the increase to us consumers
  2. I personally would not. Phone prices are getting absolutely ridiculous. If prices go up, I'll keep my Xs.
  3. There is the potential that Apple will eat the difference, but I don't have a very good feeling
  4. I think it absolutely would impact iPhone sales if the price increase were passed on to consumers. Although I don't think it will fall beyond repair, but there certainly is the potential for damage.

If they increases prices i would definitely not buy it. However my question is will existing models prices also increase? I would just buy another 8+.

1. Yes of course they will.
2. Doubtful, but then those same tariffs will also be applied to other manufacturers as well I presume.
3. No way.
4. I do see increases having an affect on sales but not to the extent that everyone would just not update.

I personally am more likely to just hold onto my phones longer than I already plan to. Not ideal but since hubby and I both recently retired we are more price conscious about how much we spend for luxury items. My advice is just to be smart when it comes to non essential purchases. Just because you can afford something doesn’t mean you have to spend on items that aren’t necessities atm.

So I read that Apple would could take a 10% hit on their bottom line if they were to eat it, in 2020. The real question is if they pass on the increase would sales slump enough to go past that 10% decrease or not?!?!?

Good question but not one I can answer unfortunately.

Take a guess, I think they would take a bigger hit. Cause they would lose more install base and more services go with that.

Ok I'll bite. My wildest guess is that many will be put off by the price and forget about updating. My reasoning is that there are many that are put off by the price already. Concluding that it’s very possible that increased pricing could affect them over 10%. I don’t however think it will just be Apple feeling the crunch...That’s my opinion, not that it’s worth anything.

1. Yes.
2. Sure, as long as I felt the iPhone could offer me something. The current line-up is a no to me. With increasing prices so does my critique of the product.
3. Tough to say. It’s possible since Apple is trying to increase its revenue stream from services.
4. Not in the US. A lot of people are happy paying a monthly payment and it won’t increase their monthly payment by too much.

Agreed, it’s why the XR is the best selling phone in the world from all reports. Cheaper price that still has good specs compared to the Xs/max.

Well the one plus 7 pro could have something to say about that. And let’s not forget huawei beat all of them in sales over the past 2 quarters, I think...

One plus is great no doubt but it still runs android so that won’t help IOS users upgrading to it and yes total sales but in terms of the best selling phone individually XR i believe was the most popular. Could be wrong though.

But Android OS isn’t far off of iOS. I mean same gesters now. They are making it “easier” to navigate around. When they have flagships that are $700 compared to XS max that is $1250. How can you not at least think about switching.

Of course it’s worth thinking about but what I’m saying is most IOS users will not switch. I switched to the S10 plus and thought it was a great phone but couldn’t get on with the OS...think a lot here would only buy iPhones due to How well IOS works. I just think people are more likely to get an XR or a iPhone X on eBay than get a top of the range android.

People buying androids are other android users is the way i see it.

For me I have an Apple Watch which I think is the best looking smartwatch you can get. I also have an iPad and an iPhone syncs with these devices perfectly. An Android phone would be a headache even if individually they are very good these days. I also like the style of iOS and its intuitive experience and having played around with friends Samsung S10, I cant say it looks or feels as nice for me.

At this point the Apple Watch is what is keeping me on iOS. I feel it’s the best smartwatch available for overall use.

No but it’s already a really expensive device.

And if rumors hold true you will have to update ur 6 by sept if you want iOS updates. They are supposedly cutting support for the 6 lines and before with iOS 13
As is a comparably specced Samsung. I think it is a good discussion point, but technically the top tier Samsung phones are comparably priced, as our other phone manufacturers.

The fact is there needs to be a bigger discussion on why we are paying $1000+ on a device that many people won't keep much more than 2 years. The additional $150 is not much compared to the increase we have seen already over the last 5 years.

If you are doing the math, a 256 GB iPhone XS Max will cost you $52 a month. That's more than many people's monthly cable service. And that is just for the device itself, not including your plan, which right now in the US will average $60-90 a month for most of the mainstream cellular providers worth having. So we are talking about $110 a month for a phone? Adding a $150 to the total device sale price is just adding insult to injury, but realistically it won't break the bank for most people as it makes a difference of a little over $5 a month in on a $110-140 monthly phone bill (for one line).

Me personally, I am using my iPhone X (which is paid off) until it drops dead. I don't see a reason to upgrade any more, and at current prices its simply not cost effective to upgrade.

Yup I get it, I have tried one years ago. If they fixed sms I would have been happier. But sms messages all came in jumbled. Hard to break up with a girl when they come out of order.:p

That’s true, a lot of people are stuck with many devices. I thank god don’t own anything but iPhone.

Yup, back in the subsidy days, no one cared what they cost cause all you had to do was pay $200!

Exactly. I'm on the Apple iPhone upgrade program and my bill increasing by a (theoretical) $8 a month isn't going to phase me.
