Many other manufacturers make phones with virtually not existent bezels. the LG G3 is an excellent example. It's shorter than the 6 and only a hair wider yet has a 5.5" screen.

The technology is capable. I'm pretty sure the bezels were an Apple design choice to maintain "iPhone proportions." It's a mistake.

This had me a bit worried for a few moments until I compared the iPhone 6 to the Samsung S3 and Note 3. I've held both and found the first okay and the second uncomfortable, and the iPhone 6 is closer to the first than the second, at least.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bezels make the iPhone 6+ very uncomfortable for a lot of people. I expect to see a lot of threads here about it.

I know it man! I was really disappointed when I saw the size of the bezels on the new iPhones. If LG can take time away from building refrigerators, dishwashers and microwaves to make a super small bezel phones, so can Apple.

LOL. Yeah, figured Apple would do something to change those damn bezels, but guess not this time. They just scaled up the 5 design.

I think the Note 4 took a huge step forward in looks and materials but iPhone took a step back with a huge body (for a 5.5" phone), ugly lines on the back instead of glass, camera hump and the lost of chamfered body. I even prefer the buttons of the iPhone 5/5s. Can anyone here honestly say that iPhone 6/6 plus looks better than the iPhone 5?

I think it does. The Space Gray i6/i6+ looks absolutely beautiful IMO.

:rolleyes:those mockups with the smaller bezels look absolutely terrible.
Sure they do. Just like larger screens were ridiculous and how innovative it will be once Apple loses the bezels for the iPhone 7.

Or heaven forbid, a small bezeled iPad...oh wait, iPad Air...

No, the technology is not capable. Android phones with slim bezels don't have a fingerprint sensor to accommodate.

"iPhone proportions" have changed several times. The iPhone 6 has proportionally smaller bezels than the 5S and is squatter overall. What hasn't changed is the symmetry. The iPhone display is vertically centered and always has been. It's not just design. It also provides balance and needed grip in landscape mode.

The top bezel isn't wasted, either. It keeps the earpiece balanced on the ear and helps to block outside sound (Those slim-bezeled Android phones leave a gap unless you put the earpiece over the outer cartilage of the ear). It also provides space for more complex camera assemblies free of the display (although obviously these new ones are now too thin for that advantage to hold, the camera "bump" would be much worse if it had to sit under the display.

Those mockups advance neither function nor design. They appeal only to subjective aesthetics.

You did. Pics above. It's thicker, but Moto hasn't made skinny a priority. Besides Apple is the one that self-proclaims 'innovation' and 'most advanced.'

I think you missed my point, my point was that the Moto X is in fact not an iPhone 6. It has different internal components and like you said yourself, it is thicker. Therefore saying it must be possible because another phone by a different manufacturer using different internal components made a phone with a shorter bezel than the iPhone 6 holds little relevance as to whether it would have been possible with the iPhone 6.

Its possible. Logic would dictate the final product was a result of Apple wanting to maintain the proportions of the previous iPhones, not a technological limit. That said, in my OP I said I (as well as many I'm sure) would gladly trade a few millimeters in thickness for a smaller footprint. Plus get the benefit of a flat back.

The iphone 6s:

-case will be the same dimensions
-sapphire front glass
-fixed the camera, no sticking out, or a 10-12MP camera still sticking out.
-1080p front camera.
-A9 chip , dual core, 2gb of memory.
-screens will be the same, perhaps a 4.8 and 5.7 screen by using current bezel territory but without sacrificing symmetrie and maintaining the fysical home button/touch ID..
-a nicer material for those bands, more metallic like.

I don't mean minimal bezels. I mean none. I envision the front-facing camera, the Touch ID sensor, the home button, the phone speaker all seamless integrated into the display and invisible to the naked eye. When something like that is possible and the software is able to effectively understand an intentional touch with merely holding the phone, then Apple will change. Until then, the bezels are part of what make the iPhone, visually, an iPhone. Just like the placement of the antennas on the back of the phone visually reflects the metal/glass interface of the iPhone 5.

Until then, until Apple can create a new visual identity for their phone that is distinctively theirs, they're going to keep it as is. And not solely because of the legal team...

I went in to buy an iPhone 6 Plus today, it looks totally different to the photos with those ugly big bezels. I played around with it for a while but the bezels haunted me, I'm really glad I didn't order it online.

I don't know why they couldn't have made it more like LG G3, surely with all the money Apples got they could have made it look a bit classy instead of ugly. The way they take the photos it looks good, but it looks nothing like that in real life.

I will take solice in the long battery afforded by the bezels, but yes I am annoyed at how huge they are.

I think the current design is perfect. Moreover, it's iconic.

The iPhone's shape is iconic. It is it's branding. It would be like changing the shape of a Coke bottle.

Above is indicative of the iSheep mentality. The 3.5" design is iconic, it is the perfect size. This design defines the Apple brand. Nope, I have reconsidered, a 4.0" design is iconic, that is the absolute perfect size. This perfect design defines the Apple brand. Oh I'm sorry, I have changed my mind yet again, the 4.7" design, I mean, the 5.5" design is the one and only true iconic representation of the Apple brand. Oh heck, now I'm confused. Please remind me what the party line is again.

It is disappointing that Apple chose not to trim the sides right down as well as keeping the top bezel unnecessarily large. I suggest a good start is below:

[Apple] should cut [the bezels] down as much as possible while still being symmetrical.
Smaller bezels would definitely be good, but they should keep them symmetrical.

Unfortunately while we've got these people who just love everything Apple puts out regardless, we'll just keep on getting 1GB ram and 16GB storage and ridiculous bezels.

Apple couldn't shave down the bezels just yet. They need to give you a reason to upgrade next year. :)
