If it is a SW bug why is it impacting 15 Pro only?

I have mentioned it in other threads.

Both my 14 Pro and 13 Pros have been hotter than before since iOS17. I could replicate it with certain apps like Instagram.

I tried resetting the privacy and location which had dramatically improved the occurrences.

Thus, I’m mostly convinced the infrequent heat events on my 15 Pro are software related especially because of certain unoptimised apps on iOS17.

My Launchday iPhone 13 Pro wasn’t always overheating - it started about a year ago - worst apps are Instagram, YouTube and recording 4K60 video

The 15 Pro I have right now is actually doing better - still apps like Instagram and YouTube are overheating the phone (haven’t tested video recording yet)

Have those with the problem tried low power mode? I'm curious how much of a difference down clocking the CPU would make.

Not everyone has the same issues. People are reporting their 15 Pro is working just fine, and my old 13 Pro has always suffered heat issues. 10 minutes in a FaceTime call and it's too hot to old. Meanwhile my 15 Pro Max is just fine.

Including MacRumors, as I recall... I think that turned out to be a Safari bug in the end? But it wasn't hardware related and MR seemed to trigger it in a way that no other sites were.

I remember enjoying the irony that everybody's phones were running hot because they were coming to this site to complain that their phones were running hot.
It was the ads. I had the same problem until I subscribed here to get ad-free experience!

Anyone have a rough idea what percentage is the 15 pro heat is an issue? I’m suppose to pick up on for family today but nervous.

It is effecting other phones. The 15s just get the headlines because they are new. I've witnessed it with a 13 using Instagram. Closing Instagram "fixed" the issue. Prior to iOS 17 or the current version of Instagram it was ok.

New product or new software may have some bugs. So, it can be expected to new iPhone 15s. Previous products or software generation generally have all bugs taken care of.

There is SW for things on the phone you interact with…and I assume that probably isn’t the issue and there is SW that interacts with the hardware of the phone…I assume this part is the issue

Yeah the fact that Apple even had to acknowledge this situation says a lot.
I have an order for a 15 PM but I am thinking about cancelling and allowing the dust to settle before proceeding again, probably look back at getting a 15 PM 512GB in Titanium White in mid-November.

Hopefully by mid-November a new batch of 15s with minor hardware fixes to reduce heat will have arrived. I will not be surprised if they do some minor tweaks for better heat dissipation in the models that are currently being assembled.

My 13 PM did get a little warmer than usual when on iOS 17 early Betas, but in RC and subsequent mainstream updates it has performed beautifully, no major heat.
