Well I just did two shots out of the freezer.

I'll let you know the results.

Is Grey Goose a good brand (I don't usually drink)?

I'm impressed you voluntarily shoot vodka. I've done it at parties and such, but never really fancied it. Oh the subject in hand I suggest shooting tequila may be a better alcohol to alleviate your illness since I get the same reaction after shooting tequila as I do when taking Buckley's :D

I should go to the gym and sit in the steamroom for a half-hour or so before they close, but I'm to odrunk to drive now.

I feel like dirt.

A nice hot whiskey with some cinnamon cloves. That'll kill them bugs.

Not to mention give you a good nights sleep.

zzzz

Grey Goose is the best thing to come out of France in a long time. Buckley's is by far the worst thing to come from Canada.

Is Buckley's Canadian? I never knew. It tastes awful, but it indeed does work (if you can manage to not throw up afterwards).

Will it kill whatever flu bug is inhabiting my throat/lungs?

I mean if I let it glide down my throat, won't the alcohol kill the germs?

I think I've got the same thing you've got, iGary. I've been sick for the past month. I get it for a week, it goes away for a few days, then I get it back again. My throat's soar, I'm congested, feel like crap and nothing helps. I might go to the doctor this week.

I'm sober now. :D

I just gargled with some salt water.

Maybe if I sprayed some roach killer on the back of my throat, that would kill the germs.

Yeah, it's going around big time - like I said half my family was sick at Thanksgiving.

The general progression that i saw was 4 co-workers sick, then on the home front my younger daughter was sick, which passed it to the older daughter, which passed it to my wife, which then ended up at me.

I honestly havent been sick in a while, and i dont remember actually curling up in a ball from body aches ever but this time it got me good. I think since i resisted from the work and home maybe i got the super-strain :p

hope you feel better

Ed

Actually, inhaling tequila is one of those household remedies we have (on one side of the family at least). Just take a piping hot ceramic cup and pour the tequila in it so it vaporizes. Put your nose over it and breathe in the vapors. It's supposed to help get infection killing ethanol into your lungs (in small doses)....then you can drink what's left :)

Hot buttered rum is one of my favorite cold curealls.

1 Tbsp Butter
1 Tbsp Sugar
1/2 cup water
dash cinnamon
dash nutmeg
dash cloves.
1 shot rum

Heat the butter/water/sugar and spices together and bring to a boil. Pour over rum and drink before it congeals.

The spices can clear out the sinuses by loosening phlegm. The alcohol has an analgesic effect. As for antiseptic the concentration isn't high enough to kill germs. The inhalation might help.

should I use light rum, dark rum, or Captain's ?

Well seeing as the germs have inserted their DNA into your cells, your vodka won't do much germ killing, but you might wake up in the morning feeling really bad :p

Best thing I've found for a cold is drinking ridiculous amounts of water...flushes it out pretty well and, in my experience, helps get rid of it a lot faster than just letting it run its course.

if you have a cold or something similar (without a very high fever) drink brandy. aged brandys (such as a good cognac) will make you feel better for sure. a lot of the strong cold medicines have main ingredients derived from brandy so thats my suggestion. always works for me.

Maybe if you mixed the vodka (tried iced Chopin) with orange juice. Or if you knocked it back neat after a nice bowl of chicken soup. Couldn't hurt. ;)

Cognac > Nyquil :D

A healthy shot of liquor before bed is the way to go when one has a cold.

Vodka will put hair on your chest - or maybe it was there before and I didn't notice.
