I have been asked to join an app's beta program for testing. Does one have the ability to delete the beta app and install the official version of the app if there is an issue? I know with an official app, you can not go back to an earlier version. Thanks.

Yes, you can go to the App Store and download the stable version at any time. This will override the beta.

There are some edge cases where you have to delete the beta first. For example, if the beta modifies the app's database in a way the stable version cannot read, it will crash on launch. So if you store important data in this app make sure to create a backup before installing the beta version.

Thanks! I feel better about trying the beta now. It’s mainly cosmetic changes so I probably won’t have to back it out anyway.
