You can't have a list like the original post without a G4 Cube!

 OOPS!!! However could I have forgotten the Cube....sighhhh. I think the G4 cinema displays were freaking sexy...even though they used those retarded ADC connectors :D

well, if ever i won in the lottery. i will buy house and lots. and build a business. and i will saved my other money in the bank. and of course i will travel in different country's together with my family.:p

Here are the results of my latest shopping spree. It involved updating the quantity/subtotal several times. :D:

Nice to dream isnt it.

unless you are planning on starting a Apple museum it would be pretty useless

I've wanted to do that, including working models of all of the ones I've owned, back to the Mac Plus. A working Lisa and 128 Mac would be nice but they would suffer little use even if.
Actually I'd like a maxed out TI 99 4/A as well.

Oh, and an Apple I would be nice.

Actually, I just came across PSSC Labs...they make workstations for astrophysicists and people of that nature... The specs for the system I configured are as follows:

256GB RAM
8 x 3.33GHz Intel processors
6 x 1TB HDDs (RAID 10)
30" Samsung Display

Now, the only thing that sucks is it comes with either Windows or Fedora...if it had Mac OS X then I'd totally buy like 50 of them. :D

if i won the lottery...

a Nikon D3 and the a fully loaded MacPro.

...oh and a nice house in San Diego :)

Fully loaded Mac Pro with three 30" HD Displays
Macbook Pro
Macbook Air
1TB Time Capsule
16GB iPhone
32GB Ipod touch

and a new house to keep it all in

mmk well as much as i care about bit's and byte's or 0's and 1's.....

What does this mean in practical terms?

Not much really, I was just making a play on words for the word BIG. :D

But IBM still uses PPC for a lot of things including the PS3 cell chip, their high end servers, and Terrasoft just released a 970FX(i think it is called) based workstation which are the same cpus that are in the G5s. So they really are good workstation and number crunching cpus. But the new intels are just so cheap and run cooler / faster etc.

If I had money to burn I'd get a pair of 30" Eizo pro displays, an AJA LHe card, and a large, calibrated broadcast display. A Nikon D3 with full range of lenses as well as a Canon 5DMkII with a full range of L glass so I can play around with its video capabilities. I'd probably also get a couple of RED ONE cameras with a range of lenses and mounts, various mid and small size camcorders, a 17" Macbook Pro for the field, and some dedicated studio space rather than my spare bedroom.

Oh, and a SAN for my storage. Something with a lot of spindles, a lot of speed - capable of handling uncompressed HD streams with ease. Maybe 3Par E200.

Well to be the best Id have a Cray CX1 (as a Seti Machine) - its their 'personal' super computer.

Fully specced with 8 x blades (each 32GB Ram, 320GB SATA and Dual 3.2GHz Xeons), and the rolling chassis and support options (running Redhat for super SMP capabilities it runs in at a neat $98,500)

For the math thats 64 x 1600MHz, 3.2GHz Xeons with 256GB total Ram all in a sexy black box....

....now where did I put that BOINC source.........

If I won the lottery, what Apple stuff would I buy? Hmmm....

1) MacBook Pro + accessories or a Mac Pro
2) MacBook Air + accessories
3) Time Capsule
4) iPod Classic
5) iPhone 3G

I would get a Mac Pro. Install 4 Velociraptor hard drives, GTX 280 graphic card and Pro Tools HD 1. An extra power supply for the GTX 280.

A few Xserve to run a render farm and lots of applications. No more using educational version.

Wacom Cintiq 12" tablet, Canon G10 and 1D Mark 3, Red One, Korg Zero 8 and all the things that go with these things.

I can only spend money that is interest.

Well, I haven't won the lottery (unless you're talking about the £30 I won a while back, which I was very happy about) but I still have considerably more computing resources than any of the wish lists here to call upon - even the Cray.

However as far as the home side is concerned, having too much kit in a small dump is bad for the soul (not to mention having to sit in your workroom in your underwear even with the pathetic little AC going in summer) so I've worked to slightly reduce the box count. I still have a server with a maximum internal capacity of 17Tb in the loft though.

If I won the lottery, what it would pay for in terms of personal tech is my own time to design and manufacture something custom for myself - perhaps a really nice set of desks with integrated modular EATX enclosures in the legs, as well as an integrated, cantilevered VESA mount. I mean, from the state of my dump you'd never guess I'm a sometime award-winning industrial designer - it's a bit of a 'physician, heal thyself' deal. It would be kind of nice to have sufficient money to say to my business and all of my clients "Right, I'm buggering off for a while" then come back when I'm done doing my own thing for a while.

I have a standing agreement with one of my best friends: if either of us comes into a lot of money (inheritence, crazily successful business venture whatever), I think the starting definition is $1mil liquid, then he is obliged to buy the other a 'full-featured Mac Pro' with 2x30" cinema displays.

Screen real estate is my justification for buying the Pro. I have 2 Dells; a 30" and a 24" that I run in portrait mode spectacular web browsing (1920 vertical pixels!).. that and the upgradability of the video card, although I opted recently to wait on replacing my X1900. It's fine for the games I play at present. Soon I'll be also running my 720p projector for some Pro-powered home theater, and my long-term plan is a third monitor (flanking the opposite side of the 30" in portrait mode) and then 'be satisfied' with my screen real estate.

Heh, if I won the lotto.. well, I really have little reason to have a Mac Pro (the one I have was cheaper than getting a fully loaded iMac).. so I'd probably get the fully loaded iMac, then build a seriously decked out gaming PC. Yea, it's still in my blood.

If we keep this thread alive, try to refrain from the 'I'd pay my bills' replies. Yes, we'd all pay our bills, and invest or whatever..

Just to expand a little on the original topic: :D

I was thinking it would be better to win one of those sweepstakes like Pepsi did a few years back, the "Play for a Billion" sweepstakes if I recall correctly. Lottery winnings are split in half with the Man and then the winner receives the rest in one lump sum. Ergo, VERY high likelyhood of it all being blown right then and there. But with the sweepstakes, the winnings are paid out in installments over a period of 30-40 years, depending on whose contest it is. That would be a zillion times better cause I'm set for life that way...each time they mail me a check...I'm ordering another Mac!! :apple: I mean, just imagine what the Mac workstation will be like in 30 years!!!!! Or even 10!!! I get all giddy thinking about it. :D

Scientific progress goes "BOINC." :D Couldn't resist, I love Calvin and Hobbes.

If I won the lottery, I would build a new house how I want and make it the most environmentally friendly house (I'm Earth's bitch!).

I would buy a Lexus GS450h, a Lotus Exige and a 1971 Ford XY GTHO Phase 3 Falcon (Pic here, here and here)

The environmentally friendly house and hybrid Lexus should cancel out the big V8 Falcon!

if i win i'd invest in a tin of paint some knuckle dusters and look forward to work the next day ;)

so many nice ways to get a p45

oh and i'd buy a top of the line mac pro /mac book pro and a mars bar.

well to start off with

A $100 grand Cray. Wow! that's on my list. Even less expensive customizations available.
