I believe its soldered onto the logic board so if its loose, then there's only one way to fix it. get a replacement
Now that I've cleaned out the lint it's staying plugged in firmly but I am still getting the error message "This accessory may not be supported." Would a loose port most likely be the cause of this or does that sound more like a bad cord/lint?

Are you getting the same message with another cable/charger?
 
No but I was experiencing the charging stopping/starting with the Apple wall charger although that was before I cleaned out all the lint.
Well, if another cable/charger isn't resulting in the same error, then it sounds like it's that cable/charger that is resulting in the error that is at issue and not the device or its parts.
 
I removed the Lightning port on my 6s plus and installed a usbc port... So much nicer.

I got a replacement of the exact same model and the problem went away. The problem seems to be worse when it is colder, could leaving the charger in the car at all times in the cold damage it or cause it to malfunction?
