If Location Services are set to on...

...is it always active (ie. using battery life), or is it only active when it's being used in maps/camera etc?

It's only active when being used by a location-based app. Look at the status bar for the icon to see if it's running.

Cheers. I'd like to leave it on but I naturally like to preserve battery life. I suppose i just need to make sure I wiggle the icons in the multi task bar and close them when Im not using them right?
