I got a family member the iPhone 12.... and also a wireless charger/stand.

Just realized that she has been keeping the phone on the charger when it's not in use.... (even when the phone is already at 100%)

Will doing so kill the phone's battery sooner over a 2-year period?(which is the usual amount of time she gets a new phone)

Probably not. If she always get a new phone in 2 years, she will be fine. Make sure to enable "optimized battery charging" in Settings.

I actually looked into that and couldn't decide if optimized battery charging was good or bad for her use case.

She works at a large hospital. Here's an example what time she wakes up for the last 11 workdays (based on her alarm clock app) 7:00AM, 3:00PM, 5:30:AM, 10:00AM, 6:30PM, 9:20AM, 2:20PM, 11:00AM, 4:30AM, 8:00PM, 2:00AM. There are 1 or 2 days off in-between, of course.

Then don't worry about it. The battery should be fine within the 2 year mark.

No, The batteries are very smart and efficient. Apple has put in years of R&D into it. You just have to enjoy using your iPhone.

The heat generated during wireless charging is an issue. But if keeping the iPhone for only 2 years, then it should not be a problem. Nothing to worry

worst case scenario, the battery has to be replaced... which I assume is covered by AppleCare?

I only charge my XS wirelessly, with some exceptions (CarPlay etc). It’s at 96% battery status after 18 months, I haven’t noticed any difference in battery degradation vs wired charging.

I saw this thread and thought I’d commented on it as there is an identical thread. No charging wirelessly doesn’t ruin the battery. Got my iPhone 12 on launch day and it’s been charged wirelessly every night and still on 100% battery health.

My Iphone XR gets charged every night on a wireless stand. It's two years and 9 months old and battery health is at 92%.
