I was going off of amazons usual huge leaps vs apples last improvement which was not exactly the biggest thing ever.

Huge leaps? I would hardly describe the Kindle's progress in those terms. Yes, it has come along nicely. It also is, and was, a rather limited device.

Apple wants to sell you the hardware, first and foremost.
Amazon wants you to buy their content, first and foremost.

The differing business models will virtually assure different evolution plans with different features.

You're not allowed to disagree without a supporting argument! come on! lets make this discussion actually go somewhere besides the usual apple fanboi vs android fanboi argument!

Hey, high school boy, I'll happily debate business issues with you in about 8 years. Get some life experience and business theory behind you first.

You're assuming that a) Amazon will make the Kindle Fire into something with Apple-like usability and design, and b) that iOS/iPad development will somehow stop, and perhaps even regress.

Both are quite unlikely.

But yeah, all these fantastic "what if" scenarios that some members are inflicting upon the rest of us (especially lately) in regard to Apple's competition are a fun way of taking up bandwidth.

To NATEJAMESMEYERS

DO YOU EVEN OWN A KINDLE FIRE OR AN IPAD???? :D

I saw your previous posts and it was obvious that you didn't like the ipad at all and I couldn't tell if you even owned one.

Wheres the delete account button

Theres a whole bunch of people here that aren't raging morons but the guys that insult anyone that has a different opinion just ruin the whole forum for me

You do see what i'm talking about right. Just started this thread sharing this information I read in some article, and I get attacked and insulted.

Ah, see, that would be the problem -- you just read some article, and repeated it without real personal experience to back up your opinions. Plus, you didn't mention or link to this article in your original post. Not a good way to start off a forum discussion. And after all, this is an iPad forum -- most people who hang out here like the iPad. You come in here and state a negative opinion about the iPad, without much substantive argument to back it up, and what do you expect? Of course people are going to get annoyed at you. Yes, there are ways of stating a dissenting opinion while staying respectful of the majority, and if you do that, you won't get attacked or insulted. But you seem to have no understanding that in order to get respect, you first have to give respect.

I own both a Kindle Fire & an iPad 2.

I can summarize these two in just one word.

Different.

I can summarize their performance.

Excellent.

My opinion?

Incompatible.

These are two distinctively different devices that just happen to share the tablet form factor. They each have their Pro's & Cons. For a first generation product the Fire is quite good. By the time they've been making them as long as Apple has, many people will change their opinion.

If you're out to declare a "winner" I'm not interested. I'd rather take a positive approach, enjoy each for their strengths and let the manufacturers work out the bugs.

I will be the first to admit that I'm both passionate & biased towards Apple, but that doesn't stop me from sharing my open minded & outspoken thoughts & experiences.

As an engineer the only thing I'm adverse to is assumptions and guesswork.

I enjoy buying lots of computers and other tech gear running on the various platforms. Tech addict? Absolutely!

It's great fun to have first hand experience with the Apple gear I prefer, plus that of the competition.

Cheers... :)

The Kindle Fire is wannabe BlackBerry PlayBook with a smaller bezel and missing hardware buttons. The OS is clunky and not as slick as Amazon leads you to believe. The web browser is not faster than any other tablet browser. Speaking of web browsing, it's just not enjoyable or practical on a 7" widescreen. The price is good, at $199, but it's not a good tablet really. But people will be happy with it just because it was $199.

I wouldn't touch a Kindle Fire even with a ten-foot pole. I don't trust Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos.

The man is pure evil, heart as black as night.

If you're out to declare a "winner" I'm not interested.

Amen. The KF will clearly "win" for those only wiling to spend $200.

I have three classes/sizes of mobile web devices, plus the computers.

For some things the iPhone form factor reigns supreme, for others the iPad is a better compromise. For the Kindle's main purpose, reading books, 7" is ideal and it depends where an how my KF or Nook Classic is a better fit to the material or situation.

IMHO the iPad is definitely a better web device than either the KF or iPhone, but the KF works fairly well in landscape mode.

Just like in computers, Apple chooses not to compete in some market segments (like < $500 desktops) that doesn't make them a loser.

Nor does it mean that I couldn't see value in a 7" iOS device. It just wouldn't be equivalent to an iPad in the same way that an iPod nano and classic cater to different market segments.
