The Black Macbook was super popular FOREVER.

And discontinued quite a while ago, doesnt bode well for black notebooks any time soon.

That mockup is really thin, not sure they could even fit a macbook pro into something like that?

Both of those images are computer generated models. They do not show real products, just generic fictional laptops. Intel just needs "a computer" to use in their ads to advertise their products (CPUs). They're not trying to advertise another company's products (laptops). Even the OS depicted in the mockups is a generic, non-specific one. It shares no more similarities with OS X than it does Windows or Linux.

I doubt that the design of the laptop depicted would be feasible as a real product at any rate. The bottom is too thin. At the very least it would not have any type of optical drive, and at worst it's thin enough to not have enough support to keep it from being flimsy.

And what's wrong with that? Apple makes themselves different by using aluminum in their computers and I don't think that's changing.

Other companies use alluminium, that's not what makes them different. What makes them different is the unibody, which can be done just as easily with plastic.

Secondly i'm guessing you haven't heard all of the buzz about liquid metal.

If it was just a generic laptop then why would they go to the trouble of adding the rubber lining around the bezel of the laptop, along with the IR sensor on the bottom right ? It would have made no difference if they had left those out if it really was a 'generic' design.

Secondly, it would be perfectly feasible for the laptop to be that thin and still offer plenty of support, that's the whole point of liquidmetal.

Finally, the removal of the optical drive wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world. Apple has already shown it's eagerness to get away from optical media and there was a report here a while ago about Apple removing all optical media from it's stores in favour of pushing the Mac App store. Inclusion of a Light peak port would also aid the idea of removing the ODD.
