Yes, I get that, but are there options to upload them somewhere to, say, have them put on a DVD or USB? I'm so out of the loop with technology, but want to get myself up to speed. I need to take the ridiculous amounts of stuff stored on my iMac and do something with it. Videos and photos are useless if they're in a place where they aren't being viewed.

I am thinking for long-term like watching home movies and that sort of thing. What are my options, if any, if I only have mobile devices and the cloud?
Well DVDs are pretty much obsolete, and flash drives are headed in that direction.

I would just upload everything to Dropbox or a similar service where your videos are backed up and can be shared and streamed directly via a link.

You could even use YouTube and adjust the view settings if you want them to be viewed!

These are the kind of uninformed reviews that always show up on MR.

The 9.7" iPP is the hottest new iteration of iPad on the market, to date - don't pass it by, by purchasing outdated technology.

oh lordy, you 9.6 pro owners are so delusional. Just because you wasted your money on an already outdated product, don't make others follow suite. The 12.9 is the better ipad if she wants a true upgrade. The 9.6 is the air 2 with pencil support.

This iPad does everything I want it to, is more powerful than I need, and costs $200 less. But I'll buy the new one which looks identical and is only 15% more powerful.
While I do think the Air 2 does have quite a bit of life yet, saying the Pro 9.7 is just 15% faster is a bit of a misnomer. Sure, benchmarks for multi-core don't show large improvement but single-core performance is almost doubled. I've been faced with this before (fast dual-core vs slow quad-core) and 9 times out of 10, having the fast dual-core nets a much faster and better user experience. The quad-core was really only useful in specific tasks such as 3D rendering and video encoding.

This is like saying the iPad 4 isn't an upgrade over the iPad 3. While the performance difference may not have been readily apparent upon launch, with both running iOS 7 and above, the A6X on the iPad 4 is able to cope while the A5X on the iPad 3 became practically unbearable.

Of course, whether the Pro 9.7 is worth the extra $200-250 over the Air 2 is a personal decision.

The iPad 3 was crippled due to its CPU, the Pro 9.7' is crippled due to its RAM.
And costs $200 more than it's worth.

Hmm, so the Air 2 supports multitasking and split screen but is not crippled by 2GB RAM but somehow the Pro 9.7 with 2GB RAM is?

Let's be honest here, the primary issue people have with the Pro 9.7 is one of (increased) cost. Will the market bear the prices Apple wants to charge? I have no idea. Only time will tell. I believe in capitalism. It doesn't really matter what Apple's MSRP is for the new iPad. If it's priced too high, the market will sort it out.

I'm pretty sure the OP wasn't asking for people to get in a silly iPad/dick waving competition. Both sizes are clearly better suited for different tasks and users, and neither of them are obsolete. Jeez.

I've been contemplating selling my iMac as well, but in the end it's not viable for me. I also want to use astropad, and that's Mac only so I can't really switch fully yet.

Well part of the reason I am struggling is because if I am not selling my iMac, I think the 9.7 would work for me. It's a good size if I'm not having to do everything on it, and I already have a case and keyboard I could use. I want the pencil, but wouldn't spring for the smart keyboard right away since I have a bluetooth one I really like.

OTOH, if I'm going into this planning to sell the iMac, I want the 12.9.

Why oh why does all of this have to be so dang difficult?!? Why can I not just own ALL things Apple without ever having to think about it at all? ;-p

I do have a question about this though - if these hard storage items are becoming obsolete, what will be considered a long-term option for keeping things like home movies around? Will the days of piling everyone up on the couch and watching old movies be a thing of the past?

I agree, 9.6 owners are delusional. However, us 9.7 owners are not! :p

Seriously though, I'm very happy with my 9.7 Pro. I upgraded from an iPad 2 so I have the same form factor with much better performance. I'm now using it also as my notepad at work and it's working out great.

Well I think we'd all just stream movies.

Apple thinks we're going in that direction anyway, with their new Apple TV!

The big difference with the 12.9" is if you intend to use split screen a lot. On the smaller size iPads, split screen is something you would use in a pinch, but you would not want to sit there working for an hour with 2 apps open side by side. With the 12.9" screen, when you have 2 apps open in split screen, they are both about the same size as a full screen app on the 9.7".

On the other hand, using the 12.9" in your hands can get kind of heavy, especially if you put a case on it. Using on your lap it should be fine, and using it on a table of course is fine.

But if you rarely take it out of the house, I'd probably recommend the larger screen.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. But I agree it's sweet.

12.9 is an absolute godsend with note taking and videos.

It does get a little weird for browsing sometimes (when you get the mobile version of the site for one reason or another).

Oh and you'd be surprised how infrequent the weight will factor in.

I was really worried about it too before committing to purchasing it. But honestly. There have been very few situations where I couldn't prop the thing on my lap or hold it with both hands while I was out and about.

If the iMac is more computer than you need, are you selling it to offset the iPad Pro or could you just diwngrade to a Mac Mini? Not saying you couldn't do without a traditional computer, but if you are doing a lot of printing, you may want to keep something around.

I'm starting to be convinced that an iPad pro is almost everything I need. For discreet tasks iOS can't do, I can use a raspberry pi, my work laptop or even a VPS.

a chip that developers are no longer developing for

Do you even know how software development for iOS works? No-one targets chips, they target APIs available in the operating system.

Which is why I bought the 9.7 with 256 GB of storage

Not needed.

Just side load Kodi, download the Navi-X/Genesis/projectfreeTV/1channel Repo and you have everything at your finger tips.

Kodi is pretty easy to side load, no jailbreaking required..

Nonsense,"crippled"? Hardly, blows my Air 2 away! This screen, has been described as "perfect",TRUE TONE, amazing, the 2 cameras are better than the 12.9, then there is the speakers, Ram is allowed due to battery, but crippled, not hardly
