If you backup iphone using icloud can you restore the phone as new and

A few hours later restore the backup from icloud ? Is that possible... Like first backup the phone than later delete everything so I can run a battery taste as a new phone and 8 hours later restore it from icloud ?
I don't want to erase everything and lose my backup from icloud

This is exactly what iCloud backups are for.

Yes, erase all content and settings, then do a restore from iCloud backup.

I've got a similar question... My gf is having trouble with her 4s and I'm gonna restore as new device to see if it fixes the problems... How would I go about restoring her contacts after I set it up as a new device? Just contacts and notes is all she 'needs' back on her phone after restore.

Turn on contacts and notes in iCloud before restoring the device. After it is restored, turn on contacts and notes in iCloud again and they will all be there.
