Depends on what Apple adds to gen 2...if there are a lot of improvements, I'll sell my gen 1 and upgrade. If not, I'll keep my gen 1.

I have a feeling Apple will keep the first gen around along with the second gen, like the iPhone. First gen will be priced at somewhere around $199 for the sports model, and $349 for the SS model, with the black SS band priced at $699. This will make it affordable for new customers while existing customers can upgrade to the newer generation at the same price range when the first gen was released.

Remember when the first iPhone got a $200 price drop less than 2 months after it was introduced and all the early adopter was butt hurt? Yeah, I was one.

At that point, no one is going to buy your sports version for even $100. For another $100, they can get a new, non-scratched, fresh battery, hasn't been sweated in, and worned-in copy of the same thing.

I generally try to hold onto my technology for two years, simply due to affordability. I may try to sell at that point depending on its worth, otherwise give to one of the kids. :)

The more interesting question to me is when Apple will decide to come out with a gen 2. Like the iPad, I don't think people will upgrade their watches on an annual cycle. From a stock price perspective, Apple would be inflating expectations by staying on an annual upgrade cycle. They're better off releasing new upgrades every two years with real blockbuster advancements. Unless of course this segment really heats up.

After seeing how much legacy support Apple gave the original iPad, I have decided to skip gen 1 and just go for gen 2 or later.

After 2-3 upgrade cycles, iWatch will follow the way of iPod Touch or Nano: anemic updates, then abandonment. Apple skates where the gold coins shower on the ice, they don't follow their heart anymore.

I suspect they will do the same thing they do when a new phone comes out. Some will buy and replace and others will just keep on moving on with life.

I guess you don't know the OP? This is his MO:

- Start useless/pointless thread with content that will begin a heated debate.
- Thread goes on and on for pages
- Mod locks thread for bickering amongst users
- OP lays low for a while and begins another useless thread again.

If rumors of FaceTime camera and a spec bump for v2 are true I'll keep my v1. Not interested in videochat on a watch.

Probably keep gen 1 for a while and then upgrade to the mid range (stainless steel if it's still the thing) for gen 3. May change my mind if I can get a good trade in price for my SG Sport, which I doubt.

Depends.. I'm still rocking an old fashioned iPad and I don't see any reason to upgrade it anytime soon. If the next gen Apple Watch doesn't add that much I'll be rocking gen 1 for a couple of years. It also partly depends on how it holds up over the years. If the shinyness wears off rather quickly I think I'm more tempted to go for a newer version.

I'm 100 sure I'll be buying every iteration of the watch.

I can't say it now. As we don't know what gen2 really is. For me, if it has extra and useful health censors and larger memory, I will buy. If the sensors are the same, I will skip it.

I will get the 2nd generation and give the then old one to my girlfriend along with my iPhone.
I'll will do the same thing without the phone swap for the 3rd Generation and so on until the watch get good enough for my use case scenario to skip one iteration.

I'm hoping Gazelle and Amazon have trade in's.
Gazelle is supposed to offer Apple watch trade ins, but it looks like their site currently does not support it yet. Buybackworld is already taking Apple watch trade ins. I'm sure gazelle and some of the other trade in sites will follow suit. I'll hold on to mine for now until Gen 2 is released :)

So I suppose, looking at the poll, the bigger question is if people don't mind spending $700+ per year to always have the newest SS Apple Watch, or if people are banking on good resale value.
