What features, size, chip, ram, camera etc would be your ultimate iPad? Mine, 12 inch OLED 4K screen, camera set from iPhone 8 Plus center at the top. A11X bionic chip set with 6 gigs of ram, keep the home button. 12000Mah battery. And give it a flat black case option with white Apple logo.

For me:

1. The normal iPad 9.7 inch will have the A10X chip combined with 4GB of RAM. I love the 2017 iPad 9.7 inch, but the 2GB RAM is still the limiting factor. The 9.7 inch iPad should also have four speaker. Apple should also update the camera system to at least iPhone 7 level. Currently iPad 2017 has excellent battery life, I do not need charge this thing for few days after some serious workload. The battery life is impressive.

2. Apple should launch the iPad Pro with A12X chip. I think 4GB RAM is still sufficient enough for iOS 12. Apple should also increase the battery capacity for iPad Pro. The most importantly, Apple should include a 29W power adaptor for fast charging capability.

For me, Apple really should come up with a iPad version of iOS that is separated from the iPhone. Apple should make iOS more optimized for iPad use and allow TrackPad or mouse support. I still think iPad should have a really file browser, not like the half baked File app find on the iOS 11. As Apple’s A chip became more powerful, I would think iPad should run OS that is more capable than current iOS form. Apple should really allow multi windows multi-tasking and improve its background app management.

The Pro line is not for me. I'm just simply "traditional" iPad user, so I would love to see in 6th generation iPad (2018):

1. A10 chip (I don't think regular iPad would get X version ever again, that's the pro line)
2. Four speakers
3. Laminated screen, like in Air 2
4. Second generation Touch ID

That would be it. Of course (according to the title) I would love to see Pro Motion technology etc. but I'm realistic right now ;)

...and to be honest, I wouldn't be suprise if iPad 2018 will be silent update with only A10 chip bump and maybe better camera, with same other components...

#1. USB-C
#2. OLED HDR
#3. Allow HDMI over USB-C so we can use the iPad as an external display to hook up an Xbox One or Nintendo Switch
#4. Bluetooth Mouse Support

Three sizes: 7.9", 10.5" and 12.9". Smaller bezels on each of them (like on the 10.5" Pro).
Support for iPencil and a version Smart Keyboard for each.
Adding USB-C would be very useful, since this is where other Apple mobile devices are going.
A lot of work on iOS, e.g., with a better support for the file system (iOS 11 helped, but still, I struggle to do many things that should be very easy).

My dream ipad Pro:
15"screen option

8gb ram

hardware screen capture pass through mode (like a cintiq) so i can run desktop software but still benefit from the strengths of iOS

OLED screen

iOS system wide ICC profile support

Wacom Pro Pen 2 with buttons and textured glass-not a fan of the battery powered pencil. (i can dream right!)

Suggestion 1: Copy WestWorld.

The Westworld Tablet is a tri-fold design that is opened to display the amount of screen you need. If its a phone call then you just need one panel. If youre showing a small amount of info then you use two panels. And if you need a full tablet then you unfold it completely.

Obviously this is "Sci-Fi Special Effects" but the concept still holds true. Tablets need more versatility in increasing and decreasing surface area. So, while we wouldn't have a paper thin accordion tablet just yet. The iPad is thin enough that carrying a small brick might be an ideal choice for some users.

Suggestion 2:
Improve Siri.

If youre just going to stick with stale old slab designs then at least fix Siri. Apple completely squandered their lead in this technology and their lack of development has made people think "Amazon is great at Voice stuff!". But that isnt true and I really think that Apple could have revolutionized user interfaces if they actually put effort into improving what they started.

The hardware side of the iPad family is fine as it is. I have the 10.5 iPad Pro and it is a beast: amazing screen, rich audio, long battery life, light and comfortable to use, etc.

The problem is not in the hardware... It is in the software. The iPad is limited by using an operating system that was conceived for phones. For the iPad Pro to really shine, it needs an iOS Pro: unrestricted file browsing and cross-app importing, true multitasking, cursor compatibility, yadda yadda... We all have been requesting the same features for years.

PS: as far as hardware goes, only 2 requests:
  • refresh of the iPad Mini already
  • Replace lightning connector for USB-c

Can we get larger storage somewhere over 1 TB? I've got to figure out a way to compress my DVD/Blu-ray for ipad portability (i.e. Friends, Seinfeld, Will and Grace, Big Bang Theory, Disney, Animations, etc. etc.) Because as it stands, base on my mathematical calculations on the file size and file number, I'm already over the 512GB limit with just some of my video files. If I want to add in my CD collection as well, I've got to be very selective on what I can mustard in.

Mouse support, and possibly giving the 12.9 pro a "monitor" mode, to use as a view panel for other inputs. If it can render all the stuff Apple computes up, then it could easily take external input and display it as well. As one post above mentioned, like pugging in a playstation or Xbox to it for the display... I'm not a gamer, but this makes really good sense from a family use perspective.

Take a look at the Lenovo Yoga Book (Android edition), size it up to 11.6", have it run iOS (with support for mouse and exposed file system, Apple Pencil, and removable storage).... DONE. (for me anyways) :D Until then, the Yoga Book has pretty much replaced my 12.9 iPad Pro + ASK + Pencil as my mobile solution.

Make it THICKER! No a lot but enough were people do not bend it and give us more battery!

Looking forward to replacement for my 10.5, hope they just decrease the bezels a bit, I know Apple will not make it thicker!

"exposed file system"?

NEVER!

I echo the usb-c video input/pencil output (a la cintiq), textured glass, and 1 TB+ storage. And I’d still like forward facing speakers. That’s about it for me hardware-wise.

For the pencil I echo a better charging method. I’d also like an off switch, a programmable side button, different tip options, and cursor hover support when the iPad is acting as a display for a Mac/pc.

Put the Apple Pencil digitizer stack on the iPad mini.
Then put the A10x chip in it and 4GB of ram, and 256GB & 512GB options.

And when two of them are attached together via a little compact case, they share resources and tasks, to make a powerful little ultraportable clamshell unit. Sell even more of them to the same # of customers.

And when it plugs into a USB port on any PC or Mac in the world, have the files app pop up as a mounted thumb drive.

Then make iOS13 not suck.

Facial recognition eliminate home button
Reduce the bezel
OLED

So, basically, an iPad X... And thus perpetuating the sad reality that an iPad is nothing but a large iPhone.

Wouldn't you want the iPad to serve a more substantial use? Shouldn't the iPad have it's own defining characteristics other than just "being bigger"?

I don't know man... I love my iPad Pro, but there is little "Pro'ing" I can do with it :(

Nope ! A bezel free, with no home button iPad does sound more enticing than anything else !!

iPhone X design (small tiny bezels,) better speakers, BT 5.0, A11X or A12X, FaceID, all Apple aluminum colors, all Smart Cover colors for 12.9”,
NO HOME BUTTON, 6-8GB RAM, LED/LCD display until micro LED is properly manufactured, OLED’s lifespan and burn in is too annoying.

Kallum.

Keep the current side bezels and replicate on top and bottom on the 10.5, replicate this on the 12.9, remove Touch ID, use FaceID. Keep the current resolution, stick with LCD, preferably move to MicroLED. OLED is ok for the phone but you want better viewing angles on the iPad. Implement force touch if it doesn't add too much weight and add the Taptic Engine.

Note I said reduce the bezel not eliminate it.
The bezel plays an important role with the iPP. It provides somewhat of a palm rest.

OLED screen, why not?

Little you can do with you IPP?
I’ve seen graphic art designers, 2d artists, sketch artists, professionals using architecture software, contractors using the drawing capabilities to mark up layouts and not pictures.
Movies/video production/editing and productivity software.
Surely not a laptop but the uses seem to left to an individuals imagination.

Look at some of the games abailable.

Sure some of the above can be done on the phone however the ipp takes it to a different level.
