At 11:15 AM the first iPad Air 128GB WiFi + Cellular (AT&T) Silver had no line and was 5 minute wait. The employees had trouble understanding how to grab the pick up from the iPhone Apple Store App, but no biggie. Trouble was the second iPad Air 128GB WiFi + Cellular (AT&T) was not ready for pick up. The second one did not clear processing today and I gave up. I did have phantom pick up notices from the Apple Store App, but those were for multiple non-existent AppleCare+. The employees for these notices did know how to grab the information from the app, athough it didn't help.

When I got to Dadeland Mall in Miami around 11:15 am, there was no one in the personal pickup line, so I was in and out in about 10 minutes with my iPad and a Smart Cover. :)

Store opened at 8am, but I didn't get there until 1:30pm or so. I had purchased last night, for in store pickup. They got me right in, but it did take 15-20 minutes for them to bring the iPad and cover out from the back. They explained that there were several hundred units stacked and tagged for pickup, and they literally have to look through each one when a person comes in to pick it up. It wasn't a problem though. They were very courteous and helpful, as always. I took a while to set it up, download apps, etc... there in the store, to make sure everything was working before I drove home. During that process, which took me about an hour, 3 different workers came by no less than 5 separate times to make sure I was doing ok, and ask if I needed any help. It was a great experience, and all is well. Loving my new Air!

Arrived around 6pm to do my In store pickup. Place was packed but no line or velvet ropes outside like for the iPhone 5s. While it was packed I had a hard time getting anyone to pay attention to me. I had to walk around trying desperately to make eye contact w a sales guy/gal. Never had this problem before, I had to interrupt a guy after her finished w a customer and walked away from me. Took about 25 minutes to get it all done. Sheeeeesh.

----------

When I arrived for the 8 AM opening, there was an existing line of about 50 at Houston Galleria. Lots of staff. I was out with my prepaid 16G WiFi Air in 5 minutes

Same store I went to different time. No line but super busy and hassle getting someone to help me. Unusual for that store..oh we'll I got my 164gb Att but it took longer them normal. :/

Horrible Experience

My personal pickup for my iPad Air was THE WORST APPLE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD.

I stood in line FOR AN HOUR for a personal pick-up. Nope - that's not acceptable. The reason I waited up until midnight and ordered at 12:01am was so that I wouldn't have to wait in line.

There were 2 lines at my apple store. Pick-up and "new". My problem - it is only fair to COMPLETELY EMPTY the pre-order/pickup line before a single person on the "new" line gets a device. The people who have pre-ordered have already paid, they already have my money. There were people who didn't do personal pick-up who were getting devices before paying customers. From a retail perspective that is simply not fair and not appropriate.

Waiting on line for an hour for something I already paid for and watching people who hadn't paid walking in and out with devices pissed me off to no end. I spoke with the manager who was a complete idiot. He tried to get me out of the line (because I was asking him hard questions) but I wouldn't let him. He wanted to just give me my device so i'd shut up but I wouldn't let him, let me, cut the line ahead of the other pre-order people. That wouldn't have been fair to all those people.

Overall - horrible retail experience from apple. Not well planned and not well thought out. People who had personal pick-up should have been in and out with priority - no line.

Not so great experience...ordered at 8:15am for pickup at the Newark, DE store since my travel for the day was taking me through DE. By 3:15pm I still had not received the "order ready" email so I called. Verified the order and was told it'd be ready within an hour. Arrived at 4:30 (still no pickup email) and it was still not ready, nor could they get the ordered pushed through. Waited 45 minutes until they finally gave up and gave me one from the back and asked me if I could just cancel the original order (which I couldn't do online and had to call Apple who also had to wait for processing to complete). Took just about an hour total.

And finally around 8:45pm, my "ready for pickup" email came and it then allowed me to cancel online. Everyone was super friendly and apologetic, just a bit of a pain in the you know what. At least there was no tax!

So I initially was going to have delivery but I cancelled my initial order to do EPP discount. At 11am, I created a pickup order and at noon I got an email that it was ready. I got there around 1:30 and it took all of 5 minutes for them to pull it from the back.

Got my white 128gb yesterday afternoon with no problems whatsoever. Was back in the car 10 minutes later.

I arrived around 10. I had my first iPad in hand by about 10:10. The iPad had red marks on the outside so I returned it. That part took a while but overall it was still a quick trip to the store! When I left there was a bit of a line for walk ins and people who had bought online.

Went around 1pm to pick up my space grey 128 gb att wifi + cellular model. They made me stand in a line outside the Apple store, even though I had already purchased the damn thing online the night before. Had to wait about 15 minutes, alongside the people standing in line looking to purchase same day.

Then, when I was finally permitted entry, the salesperson couldn't get her handheld computer to work. She had to find another device, and finally logged in. Then I had to wait for someone else to retrieve my purchase.

While waiting, she spent the entire time trying to sell me on the AppleCare warranty. I can understand this with other electronics retailers, who typically have very tight margins, and make it up on useless warranties. For this practice to be employed by a company whose products already command ridiculously obscene margins is laughable. She agreed and apologized for the solicitation.

After about 30 minutes, I finally receive my iPad and smart case that I had prepurchased the night before. So, just another typical day in the disaster that is Apple retail.

I got my confirmation notice but I am thinking that if I go in the afternoon it will be less busy. If you did personal pickup, did you have to wait in line long to pick up your iPad Air?

I had to wait about an hour with personal pickup. I was told my store received over 400 personal pickup orders.

Went around 2PM for personal pickup of 128GB Grey Vz w/case and AppleCare+. 4th in line. Went smoothy. No problems with the processing of the case. The store was very, very busy, not just with iPad sales.

Arrived at the Northridge store at about 8:30.

They were doing crowd control for the inside of the store (only people being assisted were let in). Even so, there was a three person line waiting to get in..

I had a preorder for a 64GB Verizon slate iPad and a black Smartcover. Everything was ready when I arrived. The only complications were on my end:

Does this qualify for the business discount?

They spend a while checking. No.

They ask if I want AppleCare, I decline but remember it is the AppleCare+. So that has to be added.

I then comment on how I liked the previous generations' Smartcase and wish there was something similar. They brought out samples. I was shocked, since I had not heard of these. So I had to swap for the black Smartcase. This lead to an issue with correcting the web order.

Then they added it to my Verizon plan and I was out of the store.

I was there for quite a while - 30 minutes, but most of that was my own fault.

I ordered it online about 8:00 AM

Was notified it was ready about 11:00 AM and got to the store around 1:30 PM.

Walked right in (Staten Island, NY) and there were about a half dozen unoccupied sales agents there. Went to the first one and was out the door in under 5 minutes.
