boggles my mind that this is still being asked.

around 9 when i get ready for bed, i place my watch on the charger. by 10:30 or 11 when i actually go to bed it's almost always in the 90%s (depending on if and how long i worked out that day).

track sleep using autosleep.

wake up in the morning and see that my watch has lost 5-10% overnight. throw it on the charger, take a shower and get dressed for the day. have breakfast and maybe a cup of coffee. go back to my nightstand to grab my wallet and fully charged watch.

get on with my day.

I'm not sleeping with a big ole' watch on. Gonna pass on the sleep tracking.
Like a lot of things, one has a different perspective when it becomes a matter of health. Whether one has sleep apnea or insomnia or disrupted sleep, actually SLEEPING is vital for one's health. For me, the Watch isn't "big" and I don't even know I have it on at night.

What I do know is that collecting data (with the SleepWatch app) was essential in getting my sleep issues addressed. My primary care physician, sleep doctor and sleep dentist(!) all found the data invaluable. The quality of my sleep and my sleep hygiene have greatly improved. I continue to monitor my sleep to observe trends and make changes to benefit me.

I continue to be grateful that I bought that Apple Watch Series 0 (on a whim) as the Watch has had such a positive impact on my health.

I use sleep tracking now and I charge when I’m getting ready in the morning and for about 15-30 minutes before I go to bed at night. I never have any issues.

I charged it to 100 % before sleeping and woke up to 90 % this morning (with sleep tracking) so I just charge it again to 100 before leaving the house

If Watch OS 7 works with my Series 3 Apple Watch, then I'm golden. I'll do what I've been doing since I got my Apple Watch Series 5: Charge my Watch 3 during the day. Wear the Watch 5 all day, battery drops to 20-30% by bedtime. Take off Watch 5 and charge it all night. Wear Watch 3 while I'm sleeping and let it track my sleep. Swap watches when I wake up. Rinse, repeat.

Why wear a Watch at night? Well, why not? Plus, it gives you emergency calling if you fall in the bathroom or putting the dog out at night. It beats a "lifeline." If you told me ten years ago that I would feel naked if I did not have my iPhone or at least my Apple Watch on my person 24/7/365 for emergency use, I'd have said you were nuts. Now, I can't live without them. (Note: I live in the middle of nowhere and we have some pretty wicked winter weather up here. I've known of people who tripped on the stairs while putting out the dog and literally froze to death before they were found."

The reason for my response is that my Garmin could go for almost 2 weeks on a single charge. I have a series 5 and could possibly make it through the night, but go to work early so would not have the opportunity to charge it again for the day. Also remember we all use our watches differently with different battery demands. I use mine heavily all day long at work. I'm just saying it was nice to only have to charge my Garmin once every week or two. If Garmin has the technology to do it then I ask why can't Apple. I'm not putting my Apple Watch down in any way. I like my Apple Watch don't take me wrong.

Maybe because the Apple Watch does so much more the the Garmin?? I don't have a Garmin so I don't know for sure but I do know that the plethora of things an Apple Watch gets used for each day is quite extensive (and amazing!).

And you are correct about the AW. Garmin does a lot as well. At times more than an AW. But for communication Garmin lacks where Apple shines. But for workouts and health I think Garmin shines. Both watches are great.

Apparently lots of people must have bad batteries. I use my watch 5 with always on all day and usually have over 50% left at night. That's with exercise, texting, watch cam, etc all running. I top mine off in evening (takes less than hour). It's never failed me.

Large part of that depends on what kind of complications you’re using on the watch.

Apple should design a User removable battery and slot for a future generation. You can then have a second battery charged up and always ready to go. You can then wear AW 24/7, which I would actually do if I didn't have to charge it.

I wonder how much sense it makes to add sleep tracking to a device whose battery dies by the end of the day. This is the primary thing that keeps me far away from getting an Apple Watch and had remained unaddressed since day #1.
Buy 2

I think as I mentioned earlier about charging in the morning when I need the watch most.....I think for me the solution might be charge to 90-100% before bed then use sleep tracking and see what percentage I have left for work/day use then repeat the process. I won’t be using sleep tracking every night just a few nights just to see what results I get.

Good plan. But tracking is about ya ding results over time. So a few nights won’t cut it.

I have set my AW4 GPS in a way that the battery lasts for almost two entire days (I use my AW for notification and activity tracking mainly).

My iPhone 11 Pro Max also lasts two days so my routine is easy: the evening of the second day I charge my AW after dinner while I’m watching the TV until it’s bed time, then I remove the watch from the charger and I put my phone in.

My only issue with sleep tracking is that sometimes the watch disconnects from my wrist during the night (due to some involuntary movements while sleeping I guess) and the following morning I realize that the data are partial or haven’t been captured at all.

That is a heck of a lot. Is most of that work related or you being a tech nerd like the rest of us?

Both ha, so many twitter notifications, sport news, work emails. I get a good 200 a day for work some.

I follow a lot on twitter as I use that for all my sport and tech news

Time to curate your notifications that you allow to go through to your watch.

I always buy two watches just for this purpose. When one needs charging, I just put on the other. I didn't buy the series 5 because I bought my two series 4 in April last year.
