Sure, the limit is 200MB now. Let's see how long that lasts. It also makes a huge difference whether any video is cached on the storage.
I'd say it's going to last quite awhile, they're pretty explicit on their terms and I'm not sure why they would arbitrarily set this limit now only to move the goal post in the very near future. The tvOS seems to differ from iOS in that they are really pushing for cloud based storage for any and all persistent content. They want the minimum amount of logic required to be stored on device and most assets streamed. As far as video caching goes, it's not going to happen for 3rd party apps. Not sure if apple will bend the rules for their own apps.

It's not like apple to completely over-target the hard drive space. I think if expectations of volume usage were low there would be a cheaper 16GB model. I'm going with the 64GB model because I have that problem where I stupidly bought a 32GB ipad and am always struggling with that. I'd rather over shoot than under shoot.

The limitation for app size is 200mb with no local storage (all apps have to store stuff in icloud). Assuming it's similar with iDevices in that 32gb = ~26gb usuable/free, thats space for at miminum 130 apps. I'd be real curious to see anyone make use of that or more.
Only initial download is limited to 200MB.
Additoinal media assets CAN be downloaded to local storage. They have an entire system for ondemand resources, tagging said resources for local, or on-demand.

Apple TV apps are limited to 200mb anyway for anything bigger they have to pull resources on demand from the cloud and can only store them temporarily on the device.

It was not explained well what the advantages of the storage for apple tv is good for. I would imagine the unit wants to aggressively cache your apps + levels and the current content you are watching like it manages concurrent applications in RAM on the iphone.

Likely the bigger the storage, the less often cache pruning that takes place. Since the apple tv will be my primary netflix /itunes interface Im going to blow the extra $50 because schiller said so :)

Them not offering a 16gb model makes me nervous. And since my AppleTV is probably the most used device in my house I'm going for the 64gb model.

I voted 32GB but now am thinking will go 64GB if I can locally store all my best photos on it...will have to do the math tonight on how much storage for about 3000 jpegs shot on 18-22MP cameras....we shall see...

Big issue is what the heck is the CDN price...I was hoping $200 and $250 as best case scenario but maybe even $225 and $275...yikes!!

But with a maximum of 64GB, the storage would be severely lacking as a DVR. I don't think we'll see any DVR service for quite some time since they're still struggling to secure agreements with providers.

I expect we will never see a DVR feature. I personally believe we should never need one if On Demand is done properly. I use a DVR to skip commercials. 70% of that are now in Hulu (without ads). If CBS All Access had a no commercial tier I would then need it less.

i was wondering about the size too, and i think how long it would be this Apple TV generation life cycle
I guess it will starts to be update every year or so, because with the App store and new TVos it seems the 2015 new iPhone golden age

I don't think we know enough yet to make a real informed decision about the capacity.

I doubt Apple would ever have DVR-like functions on the AppleTV. They are clearly all about the streaming and the cloud.

Thus, I'm hard pressed to think of what else could use up that space, other than games. So, until we get some real-world reviews, I think the best answer is: if you plan on playing lots of games, get the 64GB. Otherwise, the 32GB will probably be plenty.

32 for the bedrooms. 64 for the main TV. I'd like to know what kind of apps we'll be seeing so I'd have a better idea of space needs, but I think it prudent to have more capacity on the main TV. The current one has what 8GB???

That is my plan as well. Probably start with the 32gb. Assuming I like it, then I buy another one and decide then if I need to go to 64. The 32 will then go in the bedroom. But I think 32 is going to be good enough.

Judging from phone apps, 32gb is a lot of storage space. Since the video and music content will be streaming (unlike on my phone which needs to have some content on it), we are just talking about pure App space. Only games will really take up large amounts of space. So it comes down a bit to how much gaming one plans to do.

32gb. But I'm still undecided. It all depends if media can be saved to the device. I am not interested in gaming, I have a PC three feet away and a PS4 right next to my ATV.

Wait a second. Really? How can they do any real gaming with a 200mb limit?

I don't seem to have a data cap on my home internet. And it is pretty fast. But I'd rather avoid hitting the pipes if I can. And if I've got the larger Apple TV I will certainly have the space for larger apps.

I guess this is Apple just imposing some level of discipline on the developers so there is space for everyone on the device. Not to mention that Apple will want to buffer some of the video as well.

Probably the 32GB. I can't see needing more storage than that, but if I did, it would probably be on only one of the three TVs I'll be using this with.

64GB -- hoping that it will be able to use additional space to cache AppleTV-optimized versions of photos in iCloud Library so photo screensavers will have more variety. Currently, I point AppleTV to a shared photostream between my wife and I, but we find that it will often repeat the same 25 or so photos.

Well, Crossy Roads. LOL

That and the movie/music cover art. Sometimes it takes forever to load.
