I am more curious about why this question, and why $10,000?

$10,000 isn't a lot of money, but it's a decent amount of money to save up if you were to save it.

I mean the average household income in the USA is about $50,000.

If I had a $1,000,000 or $10,000,000 it would be life changing.

Quit my crappy, time consuming part time job, clear some of my college debts then spend a small portion of that money on living expenses while I figure out how to best invest the rest. It's not a lot of money, but it'll buy me some time to just think and figure things out.

I wish I the the extra 10k to spare. If that's all that's standing between you and marrying the young woman you love - i'd give if to you if I had it. :D

Incurable romantic...:p

You're a good person :D

Now that I think about it, I'd rather put off student loans to buy my girl a nice ring and marry her. <3

I would payoff the debt that I have, and save the rest as an emergency savings.

I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities...

:D

not sure you can do much of that with just 10K.

since luckily I am debt-free, if i was given 10,000 to spend i would do that. i would give a good chunk to charity (1K each to Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty international, and a local youth program), buy supporting membership for MET, MoMa and AMNH and with the rest treat my extended family to a skiing vacation over christmas

Definitely, a vacation. But where?

1. Australia/New Zealand with a long stop-over in Hawaii
2. Deluxe ski vacation in Vail or Steamboat Springs with friends
3. Deluxe ski vacation in Salt Lake City area with friends
4. Tour around Europe - Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany followed by a relaxing visit on the Croatian Coast with friends for Scuba

Decisions, decisions.

A $2500 donation to my local humane society. After that around $1000 to repair my car. The rest would be up to me to do with as I see fit. And also thank you for the 10,000 dollars.

Set up my own publishing company so I don't have to put up with my current publishers.

I have a lot more than that in savings, but I wouldn't buy anything. Hence the reason I have a lot in savings, I don't buy much of anything except necessities.
