What would they replace it at the apple store with? Do they still carry the 1st gen phones for replacement?

I cant even believe they still have them. or are u assuming that

Anyone who gets a replacement for a 2G turns in a 2G. Those phones then get refurbished and are given out as replacement phones. It is very rare for anyone with a 2G phone still to be under warranty, so I'm sure they have plenty of them.

You're out of warranty, so it will be $199 but they have to order a 1st gen, takes about 3 days.

There may be people that got the phone in 2008 right before the 3G came out. So they would have a warranty until next year. So they should be able to get a replacement phone, but it would still be a 2G. Since it costs 199 to fix a 2G it is probably worthwhile to just get a 3G/3GS for cheaper/same price.
