Anyone who gets a replacement for a 2G turns in a 2G. Those phones then get refurbished and are given out as replacement phones. It is very rare for anyone with a 2G phone still to be under warranty, so I'm sure they have plenty of them.

There may be people that got the phone in 2008 right before the 3G came out. So they would have a warranty until next year. So they should be able to get a replacement phone, but it would still be a 2G. Since it costs 199 to fix a 2G it is probably worthwhile to just get a 3G/3GS for cheaper/same price.
