And I'm not just comparing new to refurbished.

I was just looking at the refurbished section of the Apple site and similarly equipped touch bar and non-touch bar laptops are the same price. Meanwhile if you were to buy brand new similar equipped laptops there's about a $300 difference between TB and nonTB laptops. This all says to me that customers may not be taking to the new TB laptops and opting to save the money. This says alot about demand.

When comparing refurbished laptops the TB laptops are a much better value than their nonTB counterparts.

For the same price you get...

Touch bar with touch ID
Faster processor (3.1hz to 2.5hz)
Faster GPU (650 to 540)

i7 vs i5 accounts for the difference in price.

But, I don't think the i7 is worth more.
My understanding is the i7 15W is actually about equivalent to the 28W i5 (and even a little worse if you're doing really intensive work where TDP comes into play as a factor) so yeah, really no reason not to go TB in this scenario.

Interesting comparison, and I guess a good example of why CPU upgrade options are rarely worth the price. I actually doubt that under intense load the 15W i7 can match the 28W i5, it really looks like the TB is the superior machine in every possible sense.

Yeah, except for the Touch Bar part of it...

Can't lie. I missed that. I thought they were both the same type of cpu.

But the i5 cpu still seems to be on par with the i7 plus it comes with a faster gpu. Comparitively speaking, for the money, the TB laptop is a much better buy.
