I bought iPhone 7 Plus, because X seems to have problems like not working in cold temperatures and the M covering a part of the screen, and also OLED screens look not as sharp as LCD.

But should I have gotten 8 plus for the nice glass feel? Is the price difference worth it of about 130 dollars and ability for wireless charging?

I’m feel like the waterproof function brought with it some negative aspects like all the buttons being harder to press on (volume, power, and the home button as well) and lack of headphone jack (another place where water could come in, so they just got rid of it I suppose)

Maybe that would make 6s plus the best choice now? Come to think about it there didn’t seem to be much use for the waterproof function, since you can use a plastic cover for the time that you do need it.

Not sure what you’re asking since you already bought the 7+. Many have the X and don’t have issues. The 8 is a great choice as well as it’s faster and supports wireless charging. Nobody knows if that is worth the price in your use case.

The headphone jack was not for waterproofing as Samsung waterproofs with the jack.

There is no problem with cold temperatures.

Why would you care about the notch covering a part of the screen that isn't being used?

No the OLED is sharper, it has higher resolution.

People come up with the most absurd non-excuses.

The 8 and 7 are both waterproof so I don't know why you're bringing that up, makes no difference either way.

There is no way a 2 year old model is "the best" today. Obviously it will be the latest model.

I can't tell you much about the plus series but I has a 7 last year and it just felt wrong. I don't know what it was about it but I felt physically repulsed by it. Wasn't even too upset when it got stolen. Same reaction to a friend's 7 as well. Now I have the 8 and if just feels perfect. Sleek, sexy and it even physically feels better. Although I must admit the camera on the 7 does feel better but it could be in my head.

Neither are “waterproof”. People really need to get that word out of their heads.
:p.

OLED has to have a higher resolution than LCD to have the same amount of “sharpness”. I suggest you search around the web for some information. Because of the pixel layout on OLED compared to LCD and same size and resolution OLED screen as a LCD screen will be “less sharp” than the LCD screen.

The 8 (and 8+) has some advantages over the 7 (and 7+). Wireless charging, faster processor, upgraded cameras, ability to shoot 4K video at 60fps, slow sync flash, etc..

I already know and I have known about that difference for at least 7 years.

It's because you failed to considering how the OLED still has one green for each pixel, which is what both the rods and cones are most sensitive to, and how the human eye is much more sensitive to luminance detail than chroma detail. All in all, an OLED of the same resolution isn't all that different from an LCD.

Unless you're talking about a cheap Chinese phone (or the Pixel phones) that doesn't have Pentile-specific sub-pixel rendering.

People talk about water-proof just like how they talk about bullet-proof or drop-proof.
It's pointless to infinitely increase the standard for something to be "x-proof" because then nothing is "x-proof". You can argue that nothing is bullet proof because if you get a bullet to relativistic speeds it could potentially blow up a planet. Nothing is water proof because if you increase the pressure high enough the water will start to do nuclear fusion and melt whatever device is in there.

"water-proof" just means it's proof enough for everyday scenarios. Just like a "bullet-proof" vest just means it's bullet proof to most commonly encountered projectile weapons.

A 256GB 8+ is just $50 cheaper than the 64GB X.
If storage is a big deal, the 256GB 8+ is a no brainer considering both have roughly the same internals. But if 64GB is enough, then the X is still the better buy imo.

I personally would be rather upset if my phone was stolen. How exactly does the iPhone 7 camera 'feel' better? However the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 are fairly similar, with exception of the glass backing. Otherwise the form factors literally identical. I don't understand why you be repulsed by the iPhone 7.

I honestly don't know either. I just hated it from the moment I got it to the moment it was stolen. I was upset but more on the meh side then an omg my life is over side. From the moment I got the 8 it just felt good. I've never ever had such a reaction to any other phone before. I also kept dropping the 7 all the time cuz it felt so slippery even with a leather case. The 8 feels like the photos are more out of focus or not as sharp or crisp as my 7. Again tho it could also be all in my head.

Just plain wrong. Most people think that there is a difference between waterproof and water resistant. Some may think if you say waterproof they can go swimming down in the ocean to any level or in a pool at any level and this is why you should be more exact. Apple will not warrant the phone if you have water leak or damage.

Well I think water-proof means you can submerge it in your house, including toilets basins and the bathtub without damage.

And water resistance means you can use it in light rain indefinitely without damage.

I had 7+, switched to X, didn’t like it, switched to 8+. Love it! Fast, looking beautiful, screen, camera, the best battery life on any iPhone yet...
How much more battery life do you get compared to 7+? Isn’t the screen same as 7+? I thought 6s was fast enough... is 7 noticeably faster than 6s and 8 noticeably faster than 7?

Maybe lg v30 might have a better camera?

- Cold temperature thing - fixed
- M covering part of the screen? Think in this way, they created the horns to move up the status icons to the corners and saved screen space for content.
- the OLED screen is sharper than the one in iPhone 7 Plus, and with much higher contrast ratio and real black
- The 8 Plus is just an internal upgrade of the 7 Plus and is another iteration of the 2014 iPhone 6 design. Also, due to the glass back, it’s heavier. The internal is great, but that’s all about it.
- Waterproof is great when you need it. The buttons are not harder to press.
- Lack of headphone jack? Your 7 Plus also doesn’t have it.
- 6s Plus is fine but I won’t spend money to buy old tech. To each their own.

But the 7 Plus is only a year old ;)

If you just bought the 7+, then the battery life should be great. I wouldn't say the 8+ battery life is better than the 7+.The 7+ came with IOS 10. If you don't upgrade to 11 and wait for a more stable IOS, it should be very fast still and has 3gb of Ram.

I’ve had them all. Was tempted by X but like the 8+ too much to leave it. Funny how Notch is in an unused area of screen but stated screen size never adjusted to reflect that. X too thin for me. Full screen chops video. X video format won’t be taking over.

Prefer real full screen vs stretched non-Plus.

I did upgrade to 11. I don't think it forced me to. Is 11 too much for 6s to handle?

--> I see

- M covering part of the screen? Think in this way, they created the horns to move up the status icons to the corners and saved screen space for content.

--> I guess it works like the second screen of V10 and V20 in that respect.

- the OLED screen is sharper than the one in iPhone 7 Plus, and with much higher contrast ratio and real black

--> But OLED screen looks not sharper if you compare the two because OLED doesn't look as sharp for the same PPI.

- The 8 Plus is just an internal upgrade of the 7 Plus and is another iteration of the 2014 iPhone 6 design. Also, due to the glass back, it’s heavier. The internal is great, but that’s all about it.

--> But I do feel that it's harder to press. And harder to plug in and plug out the power cable too.

- Lack of headphone jack? Your 7 Plus also doesn’t have it.

--> I know so I guess this could be a reason to return the 7 plus to get the 6s since it's cheaper?

- 6s Plus is fine but I won’t spend money to buy old tech. To each their own.

-- With the price difference and the added downsides the the newer versions to it perhaps might be worth it?

Comparing the price of the 256GB 8+ with the 64GB X is disingenuous.
How is it disingenuous? From my view, the context of the question on the thread title is what is the best iPhone within the price of the X. The 256GB 8+ is around the price of the base X. That's a fact, so it's not disingenuous to compare those two.
[doublepost=1511107695][/doublepost]
Why is it still the better buy?
Over the 8+, the X gives you:
- smaller body, improving daily handling
- dual OIS on the camera
- edge to edge screen does look more 2017
- seems like Apple has more in their plans for the 3D camera, thus we can see future feature improvements focussed on the X instead of the 8 and previous iPhones
- you're already spending $1k, so might as well get a phone that has the look of a $1k new phone

Less wide screen.
OIS on a zoom lens on a phone is more marketing than anything. IQ on zoom images are marginally better..
OLED screen is more fragile.
Many want nothing to do with FaceID.

I thought your comparison was misleading too because a customer buying the highest storage tier 8 Plus is doing so because they want the extra storage over the smaller options. The comparison should be between both 256GB models or both 64GB models as they are directly like for like. That is the real gulf in price.

I wouldn’t buy a 256GB phone because I don’t need anywhere that much storage. My option would be the 64GB 8 and when I compare that to the 64GB X, there is around £340 difference. That’s not nearly the same price at all, it’s significant.
