Subtle? You might want to make sure auto brightness is off on both phones and brightness is maxed.

I don't think this is news to anyone... this is what OLED is known for. Maybe my grandma doesn't know, but anyone on MacRumors sure does.

Now Apple just needs to make the status and home bar black, and have a black theme like most Android phones. Finally, they can implement always on display. But they'll save those features for the iPhone 11 and 12.

Don't leave it on high brightness for too long, you might burn in the screen.

Well must not be quite a superpower. My new google pixelbook has a IPS LCD LED backlight screen made by Samsung that shows that image flawlessly black just like my note 8. So no superpowers...... Samsung just makes great displays and your iPhone X has one of them.

X’s OLED display’s clear excellence and brilliance is apparent, even initially on the boring Apple iOS setup screens. It is truly the KING of displays.

Actually it is quite nice for watching videos or playing games that have lots of dark / black in them.

Same reason many people prefer Plasma TV sets over that of LCD. Thankfully OLED TV sets are starting to become more available and at better prices.

I enjoy this too. Wish there was more content, and that Android (even on my Pixel 2) honored DCI P3 or HDR better than it Does.

Even in 8.1 wide gamut photos / videos just don't "Pop" as much on that device. Judging by discussions in another thread, Samsung mobile displays also don't show this gamut of color with current OS versions.

Be curious to test this on the S8 our department has at work next week.
