So I have a faulty band and the only way I could get it replaced was to replace my whole watch and be without it for several weeks. Just wanted to let people know they don't just replace the band unless you want to switch to a different band. Not impressed....

Not true! I was at my Apple Store this morning for a try on appointment,a gentleman had the black sports band that was peeling,he walked in a genius took a look at it,went in the back a brought out a brand new black band that was in a clear bag that had a barcode on it. He scanned it and put it on his new watch and out the guy went with his new watch band.

This is obviously a case that's determined by the availability of bands in stores.
Would you mind reporting the location of your Apple Store?

I witnessed an identical situation while waiting for my Watch to be replaced.

Apple is particularly good at taking care of customers with defective products.

That might be true with some locations depending on availability; however, once they fix the supply issues, they'll most likely have separate white box replacements for the Watch case and bands and will replace as needed.

Yeah, not true for me either. I had a defective band (Classic Loop - the band would slide out of the watch - it wouldn't click into place) and the Genius Bar just ordered me a new band and let me keep my watch until it comes in within 3-5 days to the store.

And, I've also read a lot on here, and confirmed with the Genius Bar that if they keep your watch because the actual watch is the problem, then you get the replacement in 3-5 days.

I've a faulty sport band on my SS. Told Apple about this yesterday and they've sent a courier to pick up the watch and strap today via DHL.
Their engineering team in Ireland are looking at it and the expect to send a replacement by Friday.

My band didn't lock without huge manipulation, and it came off my wrist whilst taking my jacket off.

Was this in the UK?

By Friday? The person I spoke to in Ireland said it would be weeks!

Confirmed. Apple are sending me a brand new retail unit in the next 24 hours. Asked how this can be when there's a huge backlog and they said it can be done.

Former Apple employee here. Apple keeps a separate stock specifically for repairs/replacements, especially during new product launches.
